Morgana posted this cartoon today:

I had never seen it before. I'm wondering if FReepers would like to share the cartoons and images that most deeply affected them in those dark days, in honor of those who fought and survived, and in memory of those who died trying?

Mine is:

What's yours?

The artist did it herself:

From CafePress:

Mommy Liberty has been retired. I no longer can support the current American political climate. She was never a symbol for this war. Her message applied to 9/11 only.

Thank you all for your purchases. The profits from the initial sales, years ago, raised over $30,000 for the Red Cross. Since that program ended, I have used the occasional checks from CP to keep me alive and making art. You have my thanks.

- Eliza Gauger, March 2005”

Note how she started to take “the occasional checks from [cafe press] to keep me alive and making art.”

I visited the WTC Memorial center right next to Ground Zero with my family in May.

Thank God they have enough sequestered corners for a 43-year-old man to go and sob like a child.

I will never forget.

My favorite was a mp3 file that I found on the first anniversary. I couldn't find it again, so I converted it to a "movie" and put it up on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RSoJ7OzBPg

Yeah. I had an American born muslim co-worker who was enraged by my “God Bless America” sign that I put in my cubicle on 9/11.

That’s IT. You nailed my favorite as well. Of all the good ones, that’s the one that sticks out in my memory.

I looked for it, couldn’t remember the artist’s name. But I emailed him at the time expressing my appreciation, and he responded graciously.

Thank you!

Old Missileer, I had not seen that one, but it is excellent. And maybe, the artist on yours does not lean left... sigh. The things you learn online...

Here in Tampa we have a really neat, neat event coming up on Friday. For years there has been a large group of people who gather along Bayshore Blvd., a major road that leads into MacDill AFB, every Friday and wave flags at the passing cars, just to say “thanks” to the many service people who travel that route. The secon year after 9/11/01 they had an event where they lined the entire six mile length of Bayshore Blvd. with people holding and waving flags. It was fantastic, like a national holiday just for Tampa to remember 9/11 and show our respect for the troops from over 60 nations that are stationed at MacDill as part of the various commands there, like CentCom. There were people, shoulder to shoulder, all along the route with flags and wearing patriotic gear. It rained, and I mean stormed, monsooned that day but the crowd stood their ground!

This Friday they plan to have the flags of all 64 nations that are part of the command, and they've asked any citizens who want to to come on out and join them.

I was across the border, ; } in Jacksonville, Florida a few weeks ago. A firetruck pulled up, just on a routine check I think. There was a beautiful big American flag just behind the cab. When the firemen came back out, I ran over to ask if it was in honor of 9/11, and it was. I thanked them for the job they do, and for continuing to fly it, to help others never forget.

My other favorite, which is not solely 9/11 based, is the fireman handing the flag to the soldier, who says “Thanks - I’ll Take it From Here.”

Oh heck, NOW my eyes are welling up just thinking about that one....

Yes it is. But I’m very grateful you started it, believe me.

I remember you telling me that incident when we went to ballgame. I feel like a stranger in my own country. I need to relocate....
