With no power, they will be unable to take this basic precaution. They can maybe put out a sea anchor....

The eye is projected to hit the east end of the island, and the Bolivar peninsula. GOOD NEWS ... that's a bunch better than landfall at west end or surfside

I drove through that area Nov. 1970 and I saw the devastation, oak trees 6-8 diameter simply twisted off at the trunk. They didn’t recover for years. One Chevron gas station was using a telephone booth for an office a year or so later.

Well, you are in for a very rough ride, as I’m sure you know. I’m glad to see you are maintaining a good sense of humor and are not letting the general hysteria carry you away.
Aside from all the bickering about who’s at high risk and who’s less so, I am not making light of this storm, and my prayers are with all who’re about to suffer greatly, esp. those about to lose their lives, loved ones, or homes to flood.

The radar images are pretty solid now... this puppy is still moving on the same line... it will come ashore just west of Galveston.

Sad. Nothing can be done now, though.

5pm advisory is out. Shows Ike right at the coast at 2 AM. Hopefully that holds, low tide at Clear Lake is at 2:30 tomorrow morning. The only question is whether the previous high tide will be able to get out of the bay before then or will just get bottled in by the surge.

An anchor in these seas would dig a nice trench, but that’s something.

You're at the zoo? Why yes, in a manner of speaking, we do call it a zoo sometimes.

The area around the Seabrook/Kemah causeway show sea level or not much higher. Just north and east go as high as 25 feet ASL.
