Sarah Palin’s Yahoo account hijacked, e-mails posted online

Mod note: Do no post any screenshots of Governor Palin's Yahoo account on Free Republic.
Thank you.

On the heels of media reports that Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin was using a private Yahoo e-mail account (gov.palin@yahoo.com) to conduct Alaska state business, hackers have broken into the account and posted evidence of the hijack on Wikileaks.

An activist group calling itself ‘anonymous’ claimed responsibility for the compromise and released screenshots, photographs and the e-mail addresses of several people close to Palin, including her husband Todd and assistant Ivy Frye.

Yahoo needs to:
a) apologize to McCain/Palin.
b) explain that Palins email account was hacked by an employee
c) fire the employees involved.

Hmmmm. I wonder if the attachment not being available might have something to do with the fact that the account is closed? Wish I knew more about this stuff.

Maybe next they can go through Palin’s bedroom and bathroom to see if she wears fuzzy slippers and if Todd leaves the toilet seat up. I wonder what kind of food they keep in the refrigerator, or if they have Doritos in the kitchen cabinet? Are there any dustbunnies under the sofa?

I doubt we’ve seen the depths to which this bottom-feeders will sink.

Until my parents retired and moved to the country, they always left their keys in the cars in the driveway. In the city of Atlanta.

That works for the folks that have heard about the shooting, but not having the car stolen by a stranger was largely a matter of luck.

Shooting an intruder is a harsh, but lasting, lesson in deterrence. It's like the APCs and artillery pieces that sit outside the front gate of an Army base. It says, "We're bad. Don't mess with us." But unless you can post an armed guard to watch your stuff 24 hours a day, leaving the keys in the car is still not a good idea.

These are the people who are “worried” about the Patriot Act.

Obama’s people don’t need a warrant to intercept your communications. They don’t need a law. They don’t need judicial oversight. They just need plausible deniability.

There is an email in there that says “Look at Trig” which implies to me that there is a picture of Trig attached...

Look at the header again. It's an MMS message to or from a cell phone. It's also an Alaska number. I'll let you figure out whose it is.

All they need is a Obama-supporting college student doing his summer internship at Yahoo! that has a login on a.mx.mail.yahoo.com

They don’t have to find any incriminating evidence in the emails to use it against her. If she used the email for any official business whatsoever, it would be a big scandal. The government sets up their own email accounts to keep track of information for legislative oversight. I agree with the law, considering I would not want any democratic gov/pres to be able to conduct business without a paper trail either.

Hopefully this was just a personal account.

There is another reason to have her own private account...I know where I work, they tell us to have our personal account because they don’t want private business on an employees account...Could she refer to her job? Of course, but it is more likely that she keeps her personal business separate from her gov account....assuming that it was safe. Obviously, it was not...again, reason why presidents should not email

If this really was her e-mail account that was hacked, you can easily reverse trace this back to the IP address of the hacker.

It's a lot harder than you think.

Do a web search on "Tor anonymous proxy"

I am so computer limited I have no idea what you all mean by “ping”. But even I know anyone can set up a yahoo account—I could set one up for George Washington. Once I receive an email I can also doctor it to say anything I want.

Exactly. The point is, they aren't opposed to tapping someone's communications. They are just opposed to tapping the Taliban's communications.

I'd be shocked and amazed if the Secret Service can't find and arrest whoever is responsible in an instant. They're obviously dangerous.

Any news reports of black SUVs, pimply-faced kids in handcuffs and computers being carted away anywhere?

Anyone want access to "BO's" email?

[Kidding!] The difference is that (I think) Republicans are too classy and have too much respect for the law to follow in the DU/Kos path, not to mention that this is a fake address. I just created it, but I'm guessing I'll get a lot of fun email!

By the way, feel free to email "barackhussein.obama@yahoo.com" for entertainment.

>>Not blaming the victim but simply stating that a governor of a state should not trust the security of their communication to a company that has very little e-mail security.

It would be like if you were to leave the front door of your house wide open when you were on vacation and were robbed.

The burglars are criminals but you used poor judgement in leaving your front door wide open.<<

I firmly agree with that concept. However, what happened here is that the burglars disconnected the alarm system, picked the lock and then stole your stuff.

My thoughts exactly. She is one who has taken up her cross for his sake. She endures all of this evil to renew the hope of a return to our Godly principles. God is using her to show the world his love for us, that is why people of good are drawn to her and those of evil are repulsed. I keep repeating to my self “Be not afraid.”

If a lady that bright wanted to send secrets, she would hardly choose “gov.palin”—unless she didn’t care who read it!

According to the reports I read on the hacker forums, a “good hacker” logged in right away and changed the password. Those screenshots may be all that were taken before the account was locked out.
