Racist slurs were spray-painted across a large Barack Obama presidential campaign billboard alongside a heavily trafficked stretch of US-23 in Pittsfield Township sometime overnight Tuesday.
And the U.S. Secret Service is investigating what now appears to be two threatening letters against Obama that were received in Livingston County, according to news reports.
Michigan State Police were on the scene of the billboard Wednesday morning, and have called in for tracking dogs, police said.
Black spray paint was used to draw three swastikas, symbols of Klan hoods and to write "KKK," "Rebel" and two racial slurs.
The billboard, roughly 10 feet tall by 50 feet wide, is located where Textile Road deadends near US-23, east of Carpenter Road.

It's not clear how many similar incidents have happened nationwide. Mark Potok, executive director of the Southern Poverty Law Center, an Alabama-based organization that tracks hate crimes, said he's aware of only one other incident in Virginia - and that appeared to involve a regular campaign sign rather than a billboard. In that case, "KKK" was painted on the sign.

That was my first thot, too — it would benefit leftists, it happened (coincidentally) the same week that ‘those who don’t vote for Obama are racists’ hit the Talking Points list.

Several years ago, an African American 'community activist' in Dallas was convicted of vandalism. It was discovered that he had spray painted similar threats on the building of a black church the weekend before the state legislature was scheduled to vote on a hate crimes bill.
I hope they trace it back to his own supporters.
I think it was O supporters however in some people’s minds it might make them feel they wouldn’t want to spend 4 years of these kinds of incidents and therefore may change some who may have voted for O so they don’t have to have racial problems so if they vote McCain we won’t have to deal racial division.
