Hollywood talks politics at Emmy Awards

LOS ANGELES - Hollywood once again pulled out its political punching bag on a national stage Sunday, weeks before a new president is elected.

Granted, the platform was served by two HBO shows that ended up winning Emmys — "John Adams," which chronicled the life of the second president, and "Recount," which dealt with the contested 2000 presidential election.

Comedians Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, who host political satire shows on Comedy Central, told viewers they would avoid talking about the upcoming election.

That promise was short-lived.

"I think right now America needs a prune," said Colbert, who pulled out a bag of the dried fruit and was presumably referring to GOP presidential candidate John McCain. "It may not may be a young, sexy plum. But this dried-up fruit has the experience we need."

Griff Jenkins (Fox News) covered this event and in a prelude report he said everybody had been warned not to mention Sarah Palin.

No wonder we are so screwed up -

All the people who really know how to run the country (and the world) are tied up making trash movies in Hollywood.

Gee, I don't know. A lot of people want to watch overpaid liberals break their arms by patting themselves on the back while they trash normal Americans.

Don’t watch 30 Rock. Same for Mad Men. Same for Emmys, can’t get my give-a-$hit meter past 0.5 for any of it.
If Bones, House and Eureka didb’t sweep, it’s fixed.

I read the entire article. I did not see to much political negative. Cobert prune was up to interpretation. We always look to find negative. I did not see the show, but this seemed pretty tame compared to what I have heard other years....there is nothing wrong with folks telling people to vote...what is wrong with that?????

Agreed. If what is in the article is as bad as it got, it was nothing.

I also saw the Klum took a major dive... How embarrassing.

Horrible...Is she the one married to Seal? She and Seal seem really nice together and seem to respect one another.

What's interesting was that the Emmy voters chose 30 Rock as Best Comedy Series, a show loved by people east of the Hudson River in New York City and west of La Cienega Boulevard in Los Angeles County but almost nowhere else in the USA (as Colin Cowherd of ESPN Radio is wont to say). This upcoming season will likely be the last for 30 Rock, as low ratings and high production costs conspire to kill the show.

Who is that in your picture? He looks vaguely familiar. Missed the whole thing. There was a 30 year anniv. marathon of WKRP in Cincinnati on WGN. That was such a good show. Of course, it's gone, along with Brooklyn Bridge, Frank's Place. They were really good shows.

No real man watched the Emmy’s as an alternative to the Cowboys/Packers game.

All I know is I haven't watched a comedy show on network TV since the the "Brady Bunch", but was all psyched to watch that "Cavemen" show a while back.

It was canceled after about 6 episodes, I don't know, I thought it was funny as hell.
