so unpopular he didn't even file for re-election

I had cause to drive through Robbins, NC (Edwards' "hometown") just about every weekend during the '04 elections. Not one "Home of John Edwards" sign to be seen. Not even a "Kerry-Edwards" campaign sign, as I recall.

Edwards lives with Chapel Hill libs. They've got as much to do with the rest of the state, as say, California.

“This claims that only 88% of the republicans will vote for MCCain this is a joke.”

Would you be surprised if 12% of conservatives didn’t vote for McCain?

Please explain your reasoning. Thanks in advance!

As a result, you are a magnet for the Northeastern exodus that is stuck on stupid.

HEY! I represent that comment.... :-)

I think that it shows great common sense on my behalf to move to the great state of NC from what's fast becoming a cold, snowy, liberal wasteland (Maine). And, I'm thankful that all of the Southerners have been gracious enough to take me in.

Now, if I can just get my (Democrat) Mother-in-Law to stop introducing me as "Her Daughter's Republican Yankee Husband", I'll be all set. Some people in the south are not as gracious as others. lol!

Wasn’t there a poll just last week that showed McCain up by 20 points in N.C.?

I agree with you and I certainly hope that it pans out that way.

NC made a mistake and became a high growth state. As a result, you are a magnet for the Northeastern exodus that is stuck on stupid. I personally apologize for that.

Don't get me wrong. There are some Northerners who have moved here to get away from liberals. But most are just dependents who are to damn dumb to understand the consequences of their bad voting habits.

Ras admitted he probably over samples dims... but he is doing it because of registration... not taking into account the Republicans that registered dim for Operation Chaos.

I must concur with those who say this is nonsense. What Rasmussen does not know is that while the number of registered democrats is high in NC, a LARGE segment of them always vote Republican in the privacy of the voting booth because they are mainly democrat by birth, and family tradition requires they openly register as democrats. I have friends who are registered democrats who tell me they will register as Republicans only after their parents pass away, because they don't want to upset the family. This is very prevalent in NC.

Couple the above fact with the fact that a large segment of white democrats in NC remains racist, and you have a strong likelihood that Rasmussen's results are way off.

Silky Pony lives in NC but he is FROM South Carolina. I never pass up an opportunity to point that out.

It’s the opposite over here in Derm. I’m living in the middle of Obama Country...between the racial politics in Durham proper, and the sheer influx of northern liberals in RTP, I can’t get away from the Big O of Doom and have yet to see one single solitary McCain or McCain/Palin sticker on my daily commute.

Yes. Durham is that way, particularly near Duke University. But it was that way in each of the last 2 elections also, and that was not representative of the outcome. Durham and Chapel Hill are bastions of liberal thought, but Raleigh is much more balanced, and areas like the Triad (Winston-Salem and Greensboro) are very conservative areas.

Even with NC predominately Democrat, I’ve encountered quite a few who’ve said they’ll vote McCain or lay out - some saying they simply will not vote for Obaba.

Push polling is done at critical times to convince people that “everyone else is doing it, so you should too.”

“Somebody’s lying, big time, or we are in deep doo-doo.”

This is the most cogent and insightful post of this thread.

I fear the latter. When a so-called “conservative” state like North Carolina has 47% of the voters (blacks notwithstanding) favoring a socialist/Marxist, it bodes ill for the future.

Demography is destiny - particularly insofar as the illegals are concerned. No, they can’t vote (at least not legally, not YET). But consider that with at least twenty million of them here, that each and EVERY baby born to an illegal woman is an automatic American citizen and future voter. Consider further that the children of illegal Hispanics often do _worse_ - not better than - their parents. And consider how they will vote when they are old enough.

Twenty-five years from today, there will be precious few “Red states” left.
And an ever-growing cohort of liberal voters.

Again, the poll numbers coming out of North Caroiina aren’t favorable, even though they suggest McCain will win there this time.

How long will we continue to win in such states?

- John
