Thanks for your efforts John. I lived under the pressure to keep 300+ UNIX systems humming for PacBell for years. It's no fun. You only hear from the users when there is a problem. Management expects you to do updates when it won't affect the users...that means weekends, evenings and holidays. My worst recovery ran 42 hours. A user managed to issue a transaction that deleted 6 months of data entry. Minutes later, the critical database audit tape snapped in the 9 track drive. It was living hell. I recovered all but a nominal 1,000 transactions around the break in the audit tape. The data entry staff had that recovered by the next day. Coffee helps, but eventually you need sleep to put the neurons back on the road to recovery. Cheers!

if recovery takes 42 hours, was that data really necessary?
