Let's see this situation was so urgent that they tried to rush it through in 24 hours with the golden parachutes intact. Now Sen. McCain realizes that he may well have to deal with the results of whatever is done for a very long time if he is elected, and the American people will regardless. If NObama will not deal with this, how can we depend on him to deal with anything else if elected?
I applaud McCain for being willing to put the best interests of the country first. There could have been a lot of debates before this if Obama had been willing to risk them.

“McCain is letting Obama off the hook. McCain needs to be there.”

I agree. I think he’d get a lot more mileage out of cleaning Obama’s clock (which he would) then out of his somewhat token gesture in DC. Not taking six hours out of his day to fly down and have a debate late at night on a Friday isn’t going to tank the economy any further and might just win him an election.

I’m not trying to be a pain, but that headline has been up for at least a day- he has said he’ll delay debate..IF....they don’t get a deal.

Your reading of it may be correct- but I think it’s a typically poorly written headline:)

Do you really think he needs to physically be in DC, in order to do that? What if he was in AirForce1, he shouldn’t have to land to resolve a crisis, should he?

Washington's about to put a trillion dollars down a rat hole.

I don't give a rat's hairy hind end about the debate. Though I'm sure the pols would rather whine about that than discuss the monetary black hole they're fixing to feed.

I just saw a Fox News Alert saying that Barry was heading to Miss for the debates.

Yep, and if the debate is actually delayed, meaning Obama gets to do nothing tonight, that’s a clear victory for McCain.

I wonder if anyone will ask which nimrod at Ole Miss authorized millions to be spent on debate prep?

The more Americans know what is really going on, the better off McCain is

And, they'll hear about it HOW exactly? The MSM? Don't count on it.

We don’t need “defensive position” because McCain has alreadyput us on offensive. Keep the faith.

Big Mistake. He should go on. I just don’t see why he should not.

Perception is everything. It will pissed a lot of people off.

Dumb move

1. This is not the only debate. When the next debate comes up any critisicm of McCain not appearing at this debate will be dead.

2. This highlights a fundamental difference between McCain and Obama.

McCain’s biggest influence has been his military training. What does the military teach people to do when they see a problem? Take action and solve the problem.

Obama’s biggest influence has been his academic training. What does academia teach people to do when they see a problem. Wait, talk, and analyze the problem, then wait, talk, and analyze some more.

Of course the media wants the debate to go on. Talking about problems is what they do. Combine that with the fact that most of them come from an academic background like Obama, and you can see why they think having a debate to talking about the problem is the way to solve it.

Action vs. analysis. We have two candidates that are being true to their gut instincts on how to handle problems, and we are learing a lot about both of them.

Viking Kitty is the unofficial mascot.

Viking Kitty often appears when Free Republic is threatened by invasion by barbarian trolls or by ridiculous topic-baiters, or just for the heck of it.

I had some great graphics until the computer crashed ;-(

Hell no! Why would he?

My understanding is that Obama stayd in DC last night, and was planning to fly to MS later today. Part of McCain getting this out early has to be to put Obama in the pickle of flying there knowing McCain won't be there. I'll say one thing for McCain, he sure is keeping things interesting.

A million apologies...

I think you’re exactly right! I don’t understand why this is helpful at all. We all know that you need to be on TV to let the people know what’s going on and not let the media and the democrats tell them who you are.
