US destroyer watching hijacked ship off Somalia

A U.S. destroyer off the coast of Somalia closed in Saturday on a hijacked Ukrainian ship loaded with tanks and ammunition, watching it to ensure the pirates who seized it do not try to remove any cargo or crew.
Nikolsky said the ship was anchored near the Somali town of Hobyo and that two other apparently hijacked ships were nearby. Hobyo is in the central region of Mudug, south of Puntland. It is a natural port and does not have any facilities.

No Marines, and probably no SEALs onboard (or at least not enough). The destroyer is just a set of eyes. Once an amphib rolls in, this could get interesting just because of the cargo.

Kenya is gonna need those tanks to control the Orange Party thugs supported by Obama in 2006/2007.
Its no accident that they were intercepted.
This is a neat job for the USN SOG, but they will not be leaving the barn for a Russian flag.
But the Russians have to ask.(unlikely)
I expect that the Russians will sort this out,but messy might be an understatement.

Yes, but we really didn’t do so well against the state sponsor s of terrorism back then. It took action by the Europeans to eliminate the Barbary pirates by eliminating the states that sponsored the terror.

A Russian frigate is on the way, and I would bet a Spetsnaz team is abroad. We might see some cross-Navy cooperation here, since piracy is the enemy of all civilized states.
