Defying their leaders who had caved, House Republicans managed to defeat the 700 Billion Dollar bailout bill.
The bill would have used US tax payers money to bail out not only US banks but foreign banks as well.

Something has been nagging me since Friday. Why did GWB appoint a lifetime Democrat like Henry Paulson to be Treasury Secretary when he knew that a mortgage financial crisis was likely? It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that Paulson would take the opportunity to jump right in bed with Frank, Dodd, Reid and Peloser with the US taxpayer getting screwed as a result.
I wonder who the one Republican No Vote is? (McCain?)

The stock market is now crashing, and worst of all Obama will very likely be elected POTUS. I’m not in a good mood at all.

The democrats are now going to add the crap back in that the Republicans got taken out ie. ACRON so that then the House democrats will vote for it.
This is going to get ugly.
I have always been as big a free marketer as they come, but the simple fact is if our markets are not recapitalized almost immediately, our entire economy collapses.
I sure hope there is a viable alternative bill on the immediate horizon. If not, we are all headed for very troublesome times the likes of which none of us have ever before seen.
The ‘Rats were looking to get the Pubs on board so that when the bailout ultimately fails (because it did not address the underlying problem) they could spread the blame around. The DID NOT want to be hanging out by themselves when the fingers started pointing.
I know. I've been thinking about it, and praying, and realized that in the worst case scenario, my comfortable retirement is gone anyway. If a bad economy causes the value to evaporate (as 20% of it has done so far this year) or if the socialism this bailout would inflict on the country destroys the economy NEXT year, it's still gone. Pay me now, and keep a free country, or pay me later, and live as slaves.
