Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel will perform together at a concert in New York City next month to raise money for Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama.

Obama plans to attend the October 16 concert, which was confirmed by his campaign and a publicist for Springsteen. Joel's publicist was not immediately available.

Springsteen announced his support for Obama in April when he posted a message on his website. The musician and songwriter, known as the Boss, said the Illinois senator has "the depth, the reflectiveness and the resilience" to be the next U.S. president.

Other celebrity Obama supporters include TV talk show host Oprah Winfrey and actors Robert De Niro, Tom Hanks, Scarlett Johansson and Halle Berry.

The party of the little guy is throwing a party that no little guy can afford to get in too.

How’s that for ironic?

They are both nobodies anyway. This event won’t attract more than 10,000 people.

I was just listening to the song, “A Matter of Trust.” I hadn’t heard it in a while; it’s pretty good. I’ve been off Springsteen for a while. I get sick of his moaning. But I heard “I’m Going Down” on the radio recently, and it moves me.

By the way, rock music is like snack food: not much good for anything but makin you feel good quickly.

I’m ashamed to admit this, but I’d be willing to pay to sit through a Billy Joel concert in order to hear a Springsteen concert, as long as it was only songs from Nebraska, The River, and Born To Run.

I have come to the conclusion that I can only listen to these guys music and can’t worry so much about their politics. I wouldn’t pay to go see either of them, but I do like their music.

Now, that aside, I think its kind of funny that the only way The One seems able to raise money is by hiring high-falutin’ rich people to do his bidding. Amazing that the man of “change” still relies on these celebrities to do his dirty work. Sickening, actually.

I hope Springsteen leads off the show with “I wish I were blind”......

William Martin Joel is the sage of Long Island, so Clemenza will forgive him this time.

Bruce is the Constipated Country Club Communist of Colt's Neck. I wont even forgive his parents for giving him the name "Bruce." I'm surprised he doesn't have a brother named "Lance."

To me, the “heartattack-ack-ack-ack” of “Scenes from an Italian Resteraunt” is a lot like the song that killed Wentworth in Mel Brooks’ “High Anxiety.”

See post 18. Opinions that come from Lon Guy Land are, of course, completely irrelevant.

That’s from the song Movin Out. Joel has a lot more musical talent than Springsteen.

Billy Joel: Critically underrated, especially his oeuvre from Piano Man to An Innocent Man (most of his output since then has been uneven).

Bruce Springsteen: Critically OVERRATED bar bander cum wannabe Dylanite. The best thing he ever did was cause Jim Steinman to pen Meatloaf's Springsteen spoof "Bat out of Hell."

Highly, highly doubtful that it draws less than 10,000. I may not like them, but NY’ers will trample over each other for a Springsteen/Joel twin-bill show.

Correction: Neither one has the slightest bit of musical talent. Lance Springsteen is one pretty ok a-number-one songwriter.
