Looks like Biden had the questions in advance
Presidential Debate | 10/02/09 | Wil H

Posted on 10/02/2008 7:34:45 PM PDT by Wil H

Joe Biden just answered a question without hesitation, without pause for thought, as if he knew what was coming.

Ifill asked him "Can you think of a long held view you were forced to change.."

Biden stepped in without hesitation with a detailed answer, even before Ifill had finished asking the question.

Did he anticipate and have a canned answer, or was he prepped and just jumped in to soon?

I’m sure he has a prepared answer on what his favorite tree is.

Joe, "My favorite tree is one not too big, not too small, that I can just get my arms around, that I can have a meaningful relationship with. Trees are wonderful huggers!"

Were you on a debate team in High School or college? I was, and you seem very adept at it..

Thank you for the compliment, but no, we did not have a debating team, I had other skills in my schools years.

I totally disagree. I guess you were so impressed by Sarah (as was I) that you paid little attention to Ifill. Watch it again. Ifill was the absolute worse. But she tried to maintain plausible deny-ability I believe she failed.

I would be willing to bet that:

1. Biden got to answer first and last several times. Sarah didn’t.

2. Biden never got cut off no matter how long he droaned on. Sarah did.

3. Biden got helpful followup questions. Sarah unhelpful.

4. Iffel asked about tax cuts for the rich to Biden but missleads making it look like Sarah would charge taxes for health insurance by the false story of people losing insurance under McCain. Gets Obamas’ “Facts” form Obama McCains from Obama.

5. Biden had to have had a significant advantage in total time. Ifill made no attempt to correct this as Leahr did.

6. Ifill asked every question Obama would have wanted asked. Made me wonder if she got the list from Obama.

7. Ifill demeaned Sarah’s experience knowing Obama has less.

I have been watching debates sincs 1976 but never seen anything like this. Although Sarah did great. Ifill did her best to sell her book and help out her best friends Michelle and Barack. 1, 2 and 5 could be quantified. I may do this.

Using the race card made it worse for members of her own race as well. She demeaned every black person in America by doing this.

Missed the most obvious one. The format called for followups but Ifill didn’t do this on the very first question. She was clearly telling Biden that she would go all out for him.

No professional breaks the rules on the first question. Oh that McCain could sue her for breach of contract.

Her exclusive Essence article alone should have disqualified her. A professional should know you can’t do this kind of fluff piece and ever be considered un-biased for the object of the piece. There was not one criticism of Obama in it.

Rip Sarah all to heqq for questioning her bias. She was going to tear Sarah a new one and she did her best.

Really???

Ifill got dirty quickly anouncing rules then breaking them herself on the very first question giving no followup time for it. She only enforced “rules” against Palin throughout.

At 12:55 Palin anounces she will answer Bidens attack at 13:39 Ifill cuts off Palin off. She in hurting Biden so Ifill breaks the rule completely cutting her of after only 45 seconds abruptly and nasty as any woman ever. “Now let’s move on here”. Boy was Biden smiling as Ifill bitchslapped Palin.

Ifill then asked a really bad question acussing McCain of hurting the poor by taking their insurance away because employers will pay taxes on insurance, but employees get a $5,000 credit. While helping Biden by helping him play the class warfare card against McCain.

From 17:50 through 19:30 Biden drones on 100 seconds and is awarded first on next question. Why was he not cut off like Sarah? Need I ask.

Later on (32:30) Biden is doing very badly lamely defending his no coal in America statement, he goes on for 100 seconds whereupon Ifill tries to help him out with a new question of Sarah.
Sarah speaks for 70 seconds she is destroying Biden Ifill again cuts off Palin off (remember Biden just got 100 seconds) to help Biden for the next 55 seconds she helps Biden out of the hole jumping in with help as needed.

54:50 Palin is destroying Biden on the Iraq and Afganistan war. Ifill awards Biden a full 120 seconds. But it doesn’t help much so Ifill tries to help Biden by correcting his mistakes in a question to Sarah who gets 45 seconds.
Ifill then gives Biden an extra question he drones on 100 seconds but is not cut off like Palin was (he is doing poor but OK).

At 69:10 Biden ask can I respond? Ifill answers very sweetly “Please” (break the rules again). Thankfully Sarah didn’t give Ifill a chance to cut her off this time by speaking up loudly and quickly.

On the next question they joked a little. Ifill was somewhat fair for the last 20 minutes.

I would imaging that Biden most likely got a few more minutes total time than Sarah.

Agree completely. Especially:

5. Biden had to have had a significant advantage in total time. Ifill made no attempt to correct this as Leahr did.

6. Ifill asked every question Obama would have wanted asked. Made me wonder if she got the list from Obama.

Biden drones on so time advantage was minimal actually. Ifill also gave Sarah some extra time in the last 20 minutes.

I bet Biden had or submitted the questions. But Ifill definitely asked many questions to help Biden. This is provable.

Every single question asked last night was a softball question, and Biden has been doing this for decades. I didn't think he was quick; I thought he was a bit too slow.

On the other hand, Palin was on her game, but by going directly to the American people and not answering some of the questions, there was no reason for a follow up to the original question.

The format was perfect for her. Brought out her strengths and hid her weaknesses.

I’ll give him a pass on that one. He’s human, and he was hurt. There are plenty of times he questioned motives of others in his role as Senator without having to take him to task for something that would be emotional for anyone.

Just my take on it.

Of course he had the questions ahead of time! One of the key giveaways, apart from answering questions before they were out of Ifill’s mouth, was that his natural affable style gave way to canned boring answers. Thus he did not connect with anyone intellectually or emotionally.

Gov. Palin wins on all fronts!

"There you go again, Joe..."

At the beginning of the debate, Palin asked Biden if she could call her Joe. Her initial question was clearly to set up this line and others ("Say it aint so Joe!"), but it came across as somebody who wanted to get to know Biden on a more personal level.

Brilliant!

It looks like you had a stop watch and timed things yourself, taking notes during the debate. I did not do that but rather focused on the words of each debator. I will have to bow to you on the time issues. Nonetheless, this is not an item that the undecided will care about one iota. You and I will, but the undecideds will say "the right is whining about what was a fair debate." You may be correct (and I trust your study) but this is an issue that will never get legs.

The questions were about what I expected. The MSM tells the people what the issues are, the undecideds have a set of perceptions based on that, and Ifill asked questions appealing to middle America. I agree that some of the questions were unfair, but Ifill was not the root cause.

I played video off CSpan in RealPlayer. That let me go forward and back after it downloaded at least. If you try too soon it restarts the download. Realplayer displayed the time so that was easy.

Ifill cut off Palin three times. Each time before her time expired. Each time when she was creaming Biden.

Questions were often far to much exactly what Biden needed at that moment. I’ll bet no one saw her list or had it in an envelope before the debate to prove she wasn’t just making it up as she went.

They said Rather would never get legs. I nailed Ifill here I believe it can get legs.

I brought this up yesterday. I had a feeling Ifill would play it straight down the middle with her pro-Obama book but I was afraid Biden would get the questions before hand.

I was right but the interesting thing is that Biden lost and lost BIG TIME!
