I had read about an incident of persecution regarding a Buddhist recently, but thought (hoped) it was an isolated incident. I had known about the Christian persecutions for several years, but hadn't realized how it included other non-Hindus.

India is effectively a theocracy with teh veneer of a democracy.

Seems more so every day. The situation seems to have worsened dramatically in the last several years, or the news is reporting them more. I was saddened to see the rapid escalation over the summer. And this just as India becomes a tech center.

Journalist Tavleen Singh has reported in India’s leading newsmagazine, India Today, that the Indian government created the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), which the U.S. government has identified as a “terrorist organization”.

As Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Cal.) said on the floor of Congress on August 2, 1999, “for the people in Kashmir and Punjab and Jammu, India might as well be Nazi Germany”.
