Ben Ross (Bruce Davison) is a young high school history teacher who is passionate about his chosen subject. One day as he delivers a lecture on The Holocaust, he notes that his students have an unusually piqued curiosity about the subject matter, as they haven't delivered this kind of interest in the past.
Though the students have expressed an interest in the Holocaust, they haven't expressed the same interest with the subject matter concerning Adolf Hitler's role in it. Determined to bring this critical element closer to his students, Ross decides to conduct a social experiment. He forms an organization called "The Wave", which its members salute each other in a manner similar to Nazi SS troops, though none of them know it.
"Strength through discipline. Strength through community. Strength through action!" Ross convinces his students to adopt this as a motto for The Wave as they give a group salute. Ross' position of authority is solidified when he commands them to shout it, which they do. Snip.
Another REALLY GOOD rundown of the movie is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wave_(TV_special) This is based an an actual event in 1967.
Who else’s symbol is a sphere?...let me think...
Thanks. Going to search Netflix for this.
>>Who elses symbol is a sphere?...let me think...<<
Yes, I am really trying to avoid invoking Godwin’s law.
I don’t know anybody whose symbol is a sphere. Maybe you mean a circle?
The class misfit is especially moved to tears to find out his power is gone. A regular Boreman.
I remember watching this movie in high school!!!
It was really creepy but showed how people can get sucked into blindly following a cult like mentality without even knowing anything about it. I have only seen it the one time but it definitely left an impression on me. It is a very good parallel to what is happening today in this country.
You are correct.
What about AT&T? ;)
Holy cow man! Thanks a ton!
It seems to have a strong impression on anyone who sees it, especially if they are aware of the history behind the Nazi movement.
I saw this in High School. Kinda has an “After School Special” feel to it, but still a good flick.
WHoa! THere it is. GOod job SS.

WOW! Very similar parallels indeed.
I actually had an Obama supporter on another forum I frequent, tell me “there has to be good reason everyone is following Obama, so just come join us, be one of us”. And she was *serious*
THEY are not thinking for themselves. Watching this movie, is exactly how she came across.
Just creepy.
Dead serious here: When I think of Obama supporters I think of the movie “Independence Day” and the people on top of the building “welcoming” the aliens.
They have no concept of the seriousness and risk associated with what they are doing. No clue whatsoever.
Haha that is too funny, and you’re right.
I love Independence Day btw.
The freeper at work and I were talking about how hitler came to power, economy, and other things and told me to take a look at this movie...
Now, I had already (jokingly) persuaded people to wear blue shirts on Wednesdays and various colored shirts for each day of the week.
Then I watched the movie:)
When the girl said “everybody wear blue shirts” I almost messed myself!!!!!
