The crowd in this staunchly Democratic city –visited today by Barack Obama—gave Palin mixed reviews. There were audible boos over the very loud music and some in the crowd had their thumbs down...who else but dems would be so boorish as to disrespectfully boo a woman who had just shown up for a few minutes to help launch a sports teams season with some class, especially with her small daughters there?!!?........

"The majority of Flyers fans close to the ice (and the microphones) are very liberal Main Line country club money types who look at Palin as a gun totin’ redneck."

How on Earth can liberals be fans of hockey, one of the most violent sports on Earth, after boxing? They think hunting moose is a mortal sin, driving a pickup truck is a sin, but checking, slamming, or just slugging people on ice is okay?

Oh, what am I thinking. There are liberal snobs in the Bay Area who thought the Oakland Raiders and their beer and burger tailgating fans were barbarians from the middle ages, but had no problem going to 49er's games and "tailgating" with cheese and chardonnay.

People like this are the same ones who in Michigan reelected Granholm.

You get the government you deserve.

It was really not a big deal and is overstated, no doubt, but it makes for good story,LOL.
I think the biggest example of really horrendous Philly crowd behavior was the Michael Irvin injury.
He was taken off the field on a stretcher, it was obviously a very serious injury and the fans were brutal, that reaction is not acceptable or easily forgotten.
Believe me, I hated the Cowboys back then and even I was turned off by the fans jeers and boos. It was bad-—

Uh... you bet. Detroit, “Hockeytown USA” home of the Red Wings ... Dem City, Boston home of the Bruins and and breeding ground for US amateur hockey... Dem City. Philly is not that far off from becoming Detroit but we still love our Flyers. That being said there are many callers to the sports talk radio stations who scream at the hosts for even talking Flyers hockey as its a “white man’s gutter sport”.

I thought they were booing Deon who was doing some kind of religious curative dance around Irvin --I thought the cheers were the normal cheers for an injured athlete being taken off the field --that is the way the local sports color people who were there and fans who called the Sports talk Station explained it

I never heard any explanation like that as I did not have access to the local Philly media —maybe that is plausible.
I just remember the fans “booing” as Irvin was carted off-
it did not sit well with me or most people at the time.
