If youve ever thought about taking out
those pesky rodents who keep raiding your birdfeeder,
you may want to think twice, according to this
article.From the Asbury Park Press
Jason Needham, 48, of Oakwood
Place has a problem with [the] squirrels [h]is neighbor
likes to feed . . . .
Matters, it seems, came to a head
Thursday morning when the neighbor called police and
said Needham was shooting at the squirrels with a BB
pistol . . . . By morning's end, Needham was facing
charges of disorderly conduct and criminal mischief.
Later, the Monmouth County Society
for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals filed its own
charges . . . [accusing] Needham of animal cruelty for
shooting at both pigeons and squirrels.

"If there are no "bb gun" ordinances in the city and
he has a hunting license then he's done nothing wrong,
right?"

"i dont think this is a big deal but in nj bb guns are
considered firearms (even need a firearms id card to buy one, of a pistol permit to buy
a pistol one) and subject
to all the firearms laws. basically he could have been shooting at the squirell with an ak and the same result.
no i dont agree with the laws but thats what they are."

"actually in new jersey it doesnt matter if you are
your own property or not, unless ur property meets the
qualification to be farmland, then you can shoot
squirells. in the designated squirell season and
with an approved hunting weapon. which in nj does not include
pellet guns. once again, i dont agree with it
but its the law."

"this is sh@! What the hell if he's doing it on his own
property with a license then it's legal.
Sometimes you've got to live with your neighbors ok? if
he's shooting down your rabid little friends on his property then it's his
right. you don't call the cops
and say that hes shooting squirrels!!!! Oh, the horror!
suck it up idiot!"

"Squirrels don't get rabies.
It is usually illegal to hunt in city limits."

"new jersey law also requires you to be 450 feet from
an occupied structure while hunting regardless of
property ownership.
same disclaimer as before."

"Typical NJ"

Just to see their demonic little faces register shock and pain.
Plink!
there are no control of pests anymore....we let them proliferate...we can't hunt them....so, you get wild increases in some mammals or birds that harm other animals...
Squirrels are simply furry rats.
If they worry about that in my town, crap, there goes lunch.
I thought that this would've happened in the Ramapo area. The Ramapos/Jackson Whites have been hunting squirrel for centuries.
Personally I like squirrels.
I’m guilty.
A lot of people in my area would go hungry if they couldn’t shoot squirrels.
No license needed here to buy a BB gun. I got behind a man in Wal-Mart with one today. All the clerk did was ask if he was over 16. No license needed here for a firearm either if you keep it on your own property. No registration required on firearms unless bought from a dealer.
Glad I don’t live in New Jersey. I’d get locked up the first day.
Squirrels don’t get rabies? Tell that to eastern Los Angeles and San Bernardino Counties as they deal with their squirrel rabies epidemic. Nitwits. Rodents are rodents, and those fuzzy tails just make rats look cute, the destructive little bastids.
ROFL!
Not much meat on 'em, though.
Just to see their demonic little faces register shock and pain.
Guess you will need to stick with the neighbors cat.
2008-2009 Texas Hunting Regs...
These non-game animals have no closed season, and may be hunted by any lawful means on private property. Public hunting lands may have restrictions. A hunting license is required.
Armadillos, bobcats, coyotes, flying squirrels, frogs, ground squirrels, mountain lions, porcupines, prarie dogs, rabbits, turtles. (exception diamondback terrapin)...
Game squirrel season in my county is from Oct 1 to Feb 1 and then May 1-31. Daily limit 10. Grey/cat and Red/fox squirrels.
Non-game animals can be hunted with lawful firearms, and pellet guns and air guns. Pellet and air guns cannot be used to hunt game animals.
SO even in Texas, if they were game squirrels, there is a permitted hunting season, and restrictions on what you can use to hunt squirrels with.
And of course if you are inside city limits, well....
All of those liberals moving into suburban Philadelphia, Northern Virginia, Florida, Arizona, and the Carolinas? Welcome to the New Jerseyification of the rest of the country when Obama wins. The indigenous liberals along with those who moved here from New York have managed to ruin this state so like a plague of locusts, it’s time to move on and ruin other states.
Yep - any mammal can get rabies.
Although - rabbits and possums seem to have a metabolic “immunity” that’s not really an immunity, because their system has a hard time assimilating the virus, but it’s NOT impossible for them to contract it.
The biggest factor in why small mammals don’t usually get rabies is simply because they don’t usually survive the initial attack/exposure that transmits the virus in the first place - but a passive exposure to a freshly dead animal can cause an epidemic, definitely.
Distemper is a far more likely culprit in sick/aggressive squirrels, though.
As far as NJ’s stupid gun laws, I hope this is challenged under the Heller ruling - and watch NJ’s notorious crime rate plummet.
A good friend of mine, a NYC Detective, said that even when they were going to NJ to serve a warrant or on investigations, they could not carry. COPS!!
Cops could not carry in NJ. Dumb.
Then you have paintball markers - the only time/place you can use them is in a certified/insured paintball facility. While I don’t really object to this - there are other potential uses of paintball markers in the wildlife industry (and others) that cannot be considered in NJ.

OMG, I used to shoot squirrels with my Daisy Red Ryder in the 70s!! (I better get to my local sherriff office to say that I’m a CRIMINAL!!)
