McCain vows to whip Obama in last debate
International Herald Tribune ^ | 10/12/2008

Republican John McCain dialed back personal attacks on Democrat Barack Obama over the weekend, but vowed he would "whip" his opponent's "you know what" when they clash this week in their final presidential debate.

McCain has lost ground in polls with three weeks remaining until election day, struggling under the heavy burden of his association with Republican President George W. Bush and the blame that attaches to the incumbent Republicans for the crumbling financial markets.

Last week, both McCain and running mate Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin appeared to be trying to shift attention away from the staggering troubles confronting the American voters by issuing stinging attacks on Obama.

Palin opened the series of blistering assaults by accusing Obama of "palling around with terrorists."

On Sunday, one man shouted out "Obama loves terrorists" as Palin talked about "the bad guys."

Even assuming that McCain would "whip" Obama in the debate, why say so now?

Why telegraph your punches? Why not instead, as McCain said he'd do, "speak softly, and carry a big stick"

Don’t you get where the headline is going? Whip. Masters. Slaves. That one. McCain is going to have every word scrutinized.

Who’s McCain? Is he the Senator trying to play nice with our future POTUS? What a nice guy he is!

I loved McCain’s message to the guy who said he was mad as hell about the socialists’ taking over the country, and those hooligans Pelosi and Reid:

“My friend, I hear your message. I get your message, and I assure you, my friend, heh-henh, I’m going to go right back to Washington, and reach across the aisle, heh-henh, and work with my good friends, Speaker Pelosi and Senator Reid, henh-henh, who are fine, good, good people, henh-heh, and join hands with them to find bipartisan solutions to our problems. Heh-henh.”

When you HAVE no punches, telegraphing them is the only alternative.

Whip is an unfortunate word choice. Sort of like Bush calling for a Crusade against Islam.

With all the attention the innocent comment “that one,” drew, somebody in the media is bound to get all in a tizzy about the word “whip.” You know, I think the Democrats would just love someone to shout out the N-word at a McCain rally, or maybe the word “lynch.” In fact, watch out for undercover Dem operatives to try it. That could be a nasty October surprise.

That possibility actually scares me. Could a single word swing a presidential election and alter the course of human history? Are human beings really that dumb?

Let's see. That would be McCain and America's last chance wouldn't it?

If he is incapable of pulling this off we can thank him after America's first Marxist is inaugurated.

I cringed when I heard this last night. The last time I heard a major presidential candidate say he would whip his opponent’s *** was when Jimmy Carter said it about Teddy Kennedy in 1980.

I hope McCain is more successful in reaching the White House than Carter was in staying there.

McCain, don’t talk about whipping ass — just do it. The first two “debates” were so lackluster that I have my doubts.
