John McCain campaign senior strategist Nicole Wallace conceded Wednesday that the campaign lost the spin war by allowing Barack Obamas campaign to brand the Arizona senator as a dirty campaigner. The truth is they play dirty politics, and maybe we haven't been quick enough. Maybe we don't have enough friends in the media to carry the message, Wallace said on MSNBCs Morning Joe show. We certainly lost the spin war about his fighting a more negative campaign. The truth is that Barack Obama has spent more money on negative attack ads against John McCain than any politician, Democrat or Republican, in history.
Wallace blamed a double standard in the media which highlights any potentially negative mention of Obamas race while ignoring attacks against Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palins gender.
There is an acceptance of the gender bashing that's happened with Sarah Palin, Wallace said. It's an atrocity. Win or lose, we'll spend a long time examining the atrocities that have been carried out.
The truth is we've had a lot of thoughtful discussions about race in this campaign, and that is entirely appropriate. We should continue to do so. We have spent far less time talking about the gender bashing that happens, not only out of the Obama campaign, but on the far left, the strategist added.
But Wallace said that no matter the tack taken by the McCain campaign in pushing its message, its efforts have so far been futile.
Well, look, it's like running against God, Wallace said. You know, the media has anointed [Obama]. Many, many places in the media, present company excluded, and he's got more money. He opted out of public funds. No one cares about that.
I must have missed the war ...
this is pretty much the McCain concession speech. what a pity.
dammit i am starting to get pissed
get disciplined people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
stop talking to politico...wtf
She is McCain best face out there.
Grow up. McCain's camapign has not handled the "negative campaigning" issue well at all. They need to attack, attack, attack.
MSNBC and politic. meh. I would have missed the whole thing had you not posted it here.
Please don’t post nonsense anymore.
Wallace nobody likes a whiner, keep hitting and stop belly aching about the press.
Oh, the pity of it all! If it weren’t so sad it would be laughable...
Maybe the whole “rope-a-dope” strategy. Should be an interesting last few weeks.
Remember when McCain congratulated Obama on making history after the DNC convention and we were all scratching our heads. He then introduced Sarah Palin.
I think the McCain campaign will be pulling out the full arsenal these next few week and the Obama campaign knows it. That is why the Obama campaign are putting stories out that Obama is already preparing his inauguration address and that the race is “over.”
McCain will win in a landslide and the media knows it. Why do you think their stories have been so biased?
It’s a metaphor for the power of the biased media.
Nicole the defeatist whiner is what???? Other than a BIG part of the reason McCain is losing public opnion to a LOOOOOOOSER
Oh, and one other thing, Ms. Senior Campaign Adviser, please, respectfully, shut up and don’t go on any more tv shows.
She's right, little troll. The media has been parroting Obama talking points, and it's worse bias than I've seen in a presidential election, though I'm on the right side of 30. Yes, the McCain campaign could have done a better job, but Obama truly is the annointed.
The man has been in the senate way too long, has thought the media was his friend, and has treated Obama like a junior senator who is worthy of engaging in policy discussions instead of beating his ass!!!!!
What is it with the idiotic things the McCain campaign people say! This is as dumb as the “we want to change the subject from the economy” foolishness. What the English would call an “own goal”.
This Senior Advisor sounds like a whining loser. No wonder McCain’s campaign is where it’s at right now. Geez.
Yes. What war? I didn’t notice that McCain was fighting in either of the debates. He was practically asleep.
The only good thing about the debates was that both candidates were equally boring. But that allowed the MSM to spin Obama as the winner.
And meantime, no one is getting the message about what a slimy Communist manipulator he is. It takes TIME to get a message out through a stonewalling media complicit with Obama. So, why does the McCain wait until the last week to break their October surprises?
There’s not just one October Surprise there, there are potentially a dozen. Good luck getting anyone to believe it after waiting month after month and saying nothing but that Obama is a “decent” family guy.
He better, or this was one of his first concession speeches.
