I believe the $250K not "gross" income but is net "taxable" income (e.g. $250K after all the expenses and deductions for U.I., workmans comp and "other things that a business has to deal with").

It is true that a quarter million a year is peanuts now in the context of overall revenue of a business but people are failing to be precise about the difference between business revenue and the taxable income of the owner! As a former small business owner I can tell you that a quarter million taxable to the owner is a figure that a large percentage of owners never attain. Listening to Obama, Biden and McCain it is hard to tell which they mean. I think this is one of the biggest things wrong now, this country was founded by men who understood precision in language, they would be dumbfounded to see how words are thrown around now as if flinging mud against the walls. A lot of the arguments going on now are the result of people not being able to communicate clearly or not caring to do so. I know I am often at a loss to say exactly what it was that the candidates really meant to say.

Well it depends on whether Biden is talking about a plumber working for someone else or a person who owns a plumbing business.He also mentions police,since when is a cop a business? A guy I went to school with has a plumbing business, he is nearing retirement now and hires about 5 people to work for him. He was making over 250,000 years ago. Bozo picked this 250,000 number out of his butt, I would wager that the average small business in the US makes a lot more than 250,000.
