Election battle shifts to Florida (Dems pouring $40 Million into State)

The rivals for the White House are starting to focus on the key Southern states won by George Bush in 2004, with just 18 days to go before the vote.

John McCain, who is trailing in the opinion polls, must hold Virginia, North Carolina and Florida to have a realistic chance of being elected.

Meanwhile, the Obama campaign is pouring resources into Florida, a state once seen as leaning Republican.

Mr McCain will be in Florida on Friday, while Mr Obama arrives on Monday.

Senator McCain will hold a rally in Miami, hoping to mobilise his support among Cuban-Americans, while Senator Obama will campaign in Tampa on Monday before joining Hillary Clinton for a rally in Orlando, on the first day that postal voting opens in Florida.

Everyone was saying that the barrage was to be let off Yesterday, the day after the debate. So far people in battleground states are saying that it is still 3 ot 4:1 Obama to McCain ads. That is just terrible.

Yeah, that's what the reports (FOX regarding McCain's $160 million, CBS regarding the NRA's $40 million) were all saying.

McCain raised Ayers, ACORN, etc at the debate. McCain and Palin are definitely out there swinging for the fences in their stump speeches. So it does look like he's going fight all the way to the finish, rather than go the bogus "lose with honor" route.

But the other half of the equation, the ad drops, have yet to materialize. The only thing that immediately springs to my mind is that they're holding back on the buys to see how McCain's invocation today of the personal destruction tactics being used against Joe the Plumber are going to pan out. The attacks on Joe raise the specter of an Obama thugocracy in charge of the country in a way that mainstreet USA will see in a very crystal-clear way. They may be in the process of retooling the ad campaign ... because they've found a MUCH better way of denying Obama the ability to "close the deal" in winning undecideds.

But time (they don't call it the "unrecoverable commodity" for nothing) is definitely running out.

Okay, thanks much. It's speculation, of course, but it certainly does support the numbers you used earlier (when combined with McCain & the RNC). I haven't heard squat this election cycle from Freedom's Watch.

Thought you’d like to know that today KESG and I have both seen (me multiple times) a new McCain TV ad tying Obama to Tony Rezko and to Congressional liberals and their tax hikes. It’s a pretty good ad.

Just read on another thread that McCain is “carpetbombing” Minnesota with ads. That’s another good sign, IMO. Even if he doesn’t win MN, it should improve his chances in WI and scare the heck out of the Obamessiah.

That is awesome news! Obama sucked up all the money and left the Dems in House and Senate races scrambling for money. I was at the OU game today and talked to someone from the political science department who said these Obama ads in FL are to help their Congressional races that there is no way that Obama wins FL because he does not have S. Florida sewed up. Said if Obama was serious about FL, he would be campaigning all over S. Florida because he will not make inroads in the I-4 corridor. Then he laughed and said between Castro endorsing Obama making the Cubans mad and Jesse Jackson saying no Zionist in the Administration that he wouldn’t be welcome in S. FL. He thought it would be funny if the NYC Jewish grandmas went after Obama.

He then brought up what we have discussed about Obama dumping money so when his donors are found to be illegal, he will have no money to pay them back or the fine.

He said other then that Obama’s campaign in FL makes zero sense.
