Not to be cynical as I wish the woman well, but I get a strong feeling that Obama is dragging his grandma out from under the bus to use her as a prop for his campaign. Please follow my thinking. Obama announces on Tuesday that he is suspending his campaign to attend to his sick grandma but continues campaign appearances Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. He then flies to Hawaii on Friday to see his sick grandma but is scheduled back on the campaign trail on Saturday. Some suspension of his campaign, don't you think?

Simultaneously with the announcement of the sick grandma, here in Florida and who knows where else, new Obama TV commercials start running on Tuesday featuring the Dunham family with old pictures of his grandma patriotically working in an aircraft factory. Could Obama’s running to grandma's side, not immediately mind you, but after three days of campaigning and running grandma's photo on TV, be a less than one day side trip to help his campaign?

How much TV coverage of this trip do you think will be done by the main stream media? Wall to wall coverage would be my guess. Am I being too cynical or am I spot on in my analysis? What do you think? Is the Hawaii trip, three days after the announcement, a photo op in support of the new commercials or out of genuine concern for the poor woman with tire tracks all over her body?

First off, your analysis is a good one - and I too am cynical as to why Obama has to travel to Hawaii to see grandma when she's ‘resting st home’ and out of the hospital. My first thought would be that I'd go visit her as soon as I heard that she's landed in a hospital - and if Obama would've been like-minded, he would have left for Hawaii right after the debate with McCain last Wed. night.

But, that did not happen, and instead he went to VA, MO and FL. It is certainly possible that with the high average population of senior citizens in FL, that this could have been a calculated move.

I'm willing to bet that many of the ‘seasonal’ residents of FL (the ones from the Northeast traveling south for the winter months) are voting twice — once in their home state, and then again in their second state of FL, where they spend half of the year. Some of these folks are Dems, so Obama’s campaign is doing right by running these ads now, which is around the time that these folks start going south.

I'll call this new voting block ‘GERI-CORN’ — a mix between multiple ACORN registrations and GERITOL.
