Obama, in Missouri recently:
In the debate this week, my opponent felt the need to inform me that hes not President Bush. And in fairness, I dont blame Senator McCain for all of President Bushs mistakes. After all, hes only voted with George Bush 90 percent of the time.
At the Democratic convention, that number kept bouncing between 90 and 95 percent, depending on the speaker. According to CQ, John McCain's presidential support score in 2007 was 95 percent.
(Note McCain was only in attendance for 39 percent of them, so he actually voted the president's way 37 percent of the time.)
From the way Obama speaks, you would think he never voted in favor the president's position.
But it turns out Obama's score for 2007 was... 40. Does this make him 40 percent responsible for Bush's mistakes ? Or does Obama want to give him a pass for that 40 percent ?
(Obama was in attendance for 59 percent of those votes, so Obama actually voted with the President's position 23.6 percent of the time. Yes, last year, the difference between the two men in terms of how they actually stood in the Senate and voted was all of 13.45 percent.)
