A house where a Knox County couple was tortured and slain was razed today.
"It was an evil place," said Gary Christian, whose 21-year-old daughter was killed inside the 2316 Chipman St. house. "I'm glad it's gone."
Waste Connections Inc., which is located next door to the house, bought it with the intent of tearing it down and putting in its place a memorial honoring Channon Christian and 23-year-old Christopher Newsom.
"We have to work every day next to this awful scene," said Waste Connections division vice president Benson Henry.
Henry said that the firm wants to keep the memorial simple.
"We want something more in tune with nature, having a pretty place, a tree with possibly a little plaque," Henry said.

The house was a reminder of the Jan. 7, 2007, carjacking and slayings of the couple. Authorities allege they were kidnapped and taken to the house on Chipman Street where they both were raped and tortured. Newsom was shot, his body set on fire and left along railroad tracks on Cherry Street, according to police.
Christian was stuffed in a trash can and left to die from suffocation.
Four people have been charged with first-degree murder and other charges stemming from the carjacking and slayings and face the death penalty if convicted.

College kids Channon & Chris were carjacked by four thugs; Chris was raped prison-style in front of Channon; then had his genitals cut off; then was shot to death. Channon was raped and tortured for two days; had Drano poured in her orifices while still alive; had her breasts cut off; and was put in a garbage bag to suffocate to death. Victims white, perps black.
Compare media outrage over these Knoxville murders with "outrage" over the Duke Lacrosse case.

Bump for that. I’m pretty familiar with that case, and the lack of media attention is a travesty. There is no doubt to me that this was a “hate crime” through and through, but you won’t hear it called that in what few national media reports exist.
It’s a nice gesture by this company to demolish the house and build a little park or something. I hope those killers get the death penalty. This was such a hideous crime.
We can’t say that the perps are evil so we say that the house is evil.

What a horrible thing knowing your child died in such a violent and dehumanizing fashion. If my son or daughter had fallen victim to such a crime I don’t know what I would do. Well, maybe I do but I wouldn’t post such possibilities here.
A nice gesture against an otherwise horrific backdrop. It’s been hard to tell exactly what happened as a lot of the records have been sealed, but it sounds like these guys made Manson look relatively tame.
As far as I know only one individual has been sentenced in connection with the murders, and that was someone who aided one of the thugs after the crime by helping him hide.
Everyone knows the names Tawana Brawley and Mathew Shepard. But a couple of innocent, Christian, white kids? That's not news or outrage-worthy.
Sad that this story hasn't been picked up. We know all about some "hate crimes"--real or imagined--such as Matthew Shepard and the Duke Stripper. But these poor kids get tortured and killed without a word from the national media.

Trial for the next scumbag, one of the ones on trial for capital murder, starts Jan 26. Not long after inauguration day, how sad. If 0bama is president we all have to fear crime even more. I wonder how many average people for 0bama know of his wretched crime record.I shudder thinking of the judges he would appoint. Few will consider that when they vote though. Then when crime increases they’ll ask how did this happen.
I see another one of those execrable “Saw” films opens just in time for Halloween. Just what we need to improve our culture, huh? No wonder 0bama is ahead when garbage like that passes for entertainment. Meanwhile what went on in that hell house in Knoxville was worse than any “horror” film could portray yet it isn’t something the national media care about.
Agree. The national media will pursue any “hate crime” race angle to death—a noose on a Columbia professor’s door, e.g.— but they have nothing to say about these two dead kids.
No justice for the citizen anymore?
