“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years.”

This is the same nonsense spouted during the height of the Jimmy Carter “malaise”. Things will get worse if Obama gets in but just like with Carter America will realize the mistake and change the course again. The backlash will be huge against a potential Obama presidency and right now an Obama presidency is starting to look wobbly.

The problem is, Carter America was characterized by inept blunders whereas Obama America, backed up by majorities in both houses of Congress, are poised to inflict far more damage in much less time. I agree American will realize the mistake, but could it really change course that easily? I have a hard time imagining this far left bunch of Dems abiding by our election processes.
