With despair rising even among many of John McCains own advisors, influential Republicans inside and outside his campaign are engaged in an intense round of blame-casting and rear-covering-much of it virtually conceding that an Election Day rout is likely.
At his Northern Virginia headquarters, some McCain aides are already speaking of the campaign in the past tense. Morale, even among some of the heartiest and most loyal staffers, has plummeted. And many past and current McCain advisors are warring with each other over who led the candidate astray.
One well-connected Republican in the private sector was shocked to get calls and resumes in the past few days from what he said were senior McCain aides a breach of custom for even the worst-off campaigns.
Its not an extraordinarily happy place to be right now, said one senior McCain aide. Im not gonna lie. Its just unfortunate.
If you really want to see what going negative is in politics, just watch the back-stabbing and blame game that were starting to see, said Mark McKinnon, the ad man who left the campaign after McCain wrapped up the GOP primary. And theres one common theme: Everyone who wasnt part of the campaign could have done better.
The cake is baked, agreed a former McCain strategist. Were entering the finger-pointing and positioning-for-history part of the campaign. Its every man for himself now.
A circular firing squad is among the most familiar political rituals of a campaign when things arent going well. But it is rare for campaign aides to be so openly participating in it well before Election Day. against second-guessers who say it was a mistake to throw away his experience message in an attempt to match Obamas change mantra.

"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
I think the bigger issue has been that the staff couldn’t control McCain.
Unnamed sources say odumbo is dropping out of Florida and Ohio, same as politico nonsense
There is only one named source, a former ad man that left after the primary win, and this is Politico so if I may say...Please!
This reads like it was totally fabricated by Politico. Name some people who left the campaign many months ago, salt it with a Rick Davis quote about wanting some more cash. Oh yeah.
This is garbage!

“and the idiots who leaked to them”
It’s 1/2 fictional and 1/2 “former” McCain workers who probably have an axe to grind.
Watch, the momentum journalism will be ratcheted up by the liberals.
What a load of crap.
Mark McKinnon, the freaking Obama fan limp wristed pansy? Yeah, like that’s a good authority.
Politico lies - allot.
How is it that nobody notices...
WE ARE WINNING.....
“The election is close and when his own people say its doomed - you wonder why they leak it? It designed to depress and suppress conservative turnout. You’ll never hear this stuff from the Obama campaign reported.”
Assuming anyone from the McCain campaign actually leaked anything.
Which I doubt. Whatever their faults, McCain’s staffers don’t appear to be leakers (or Palin wouldn’t have been such a shock as his VP pick).
This comes out the same time two polls show McCain tied with Obama. Wonder why now?
ya think?
Sorry to say, but they should be in a circular firing squad......
Under the leadership of McCain we’ve seen a GOP plan that went like this:
Conservatives running throughout the country were thrown under the bus.... so the Dems took their money and put it all on defeating the RINO incumbents....
So even if McCain wins he’s going to be fighting a congress that is dominated by Dems with enough votes to overcome his veto......
DUMB DUMB DUMB
And all because McCain and his RINO buddies would rather deal with a Dem dominated congress then to see a few extra conservatives in the GOP.
Sheesh.....
Well, sounds like he's got a head start out the door. heh.
Disinformation. Ignore this propaganda. Soldier on.
I’m not attacking you here, but what on earth is the attraction to the Politico???
I have seen a bunch of threads posted from it, and it is nearly all uniformly derogatory towards conservatives.
Why do people continually post stuff from them? Are they supposed to be some kind of authoritative source?
