I didn’t vote for the religious right. I voted for conservatism.

You know what? You have me on ninety-eight percent. But if you choose to kick me to the door because of the two on which we disagree, then you deserve to lose this election and many others....because my dismay at what the religious right is doing to this party is shared by many, many other people.

I guess I'd be considered part of the religious right but in no way a fundamentalist. That said, you make some great points. The rah rah cheerleading and group think on FR has become so stifling that civil discussion of issues is near impossible. If you dare to post an independent thought you get attacked. It didn't use to be this way on FR. I don't know if McCain can pull this off but if he doesn't, maybe conservatives will get the hard slap of reality needed to get us back on track.

And I am not alone. Polls show that the younger generation of Republicans is coming to this conclusion, probably because they have actually gotten to KNOW gay people. It is hard to demonize someone when you speak with and spend time with them every day. So I have hope that this bigotry will stop.

*******************

You're right, of course. No one over the age of..what? 30? 35? 40? has ever met or known a homosexual. It's amazing that only "young" people know what being "gay" is all about.

Thank goodness you showed up to set us straight. So to speak.

Yes, many governors do a better job than the Senators.

Her educational history and her performance in interviews and debates so far are extremely troubling, though. Her responses have often been not only vague, but incoherent. How much of that can be addressed with experience and study, I don’t know. She will be surrounded with good people...

I hope you are right and that she will rise to the occasion spectacularly.

What a lovely human being you are. What a model of civility for your children.

Well. It's not much, but it's a start.

At least you can recognize quality when you see it.

Narses is one of the best.

Surely you can’t deny that people of the younger generation are more likely to have that experience...

Are you serious? Only one who is naive, extremely young or has lived a life of intellectual deprivation would believe that. Or are you making some kind of confession here?

Do tell.

Because someone 'believes' homosexuality is genetic doesn't make it so. Where is the scientific evidence? It doesn't exist.

Fifty years ago, sodomy was a mental disorder and a crime, just as pedophilia, necrophilia, and bestiality are today. You can see where this tolerance/acceptance/approval/encouragement is leading us.

Actuarial tables suggest that this particular VP choice has a pretty significant chance of landing in the Oval Office before McCain’s term is up.

Actuarial tables say he will most likely live another 12 years. Furthermore the Mayo Clinic, earlier this year, said that if he becaome President he will have constant access to the very best medical care, neutralizing any negatives of his health.

I watched most of a bio on McCain last night. The man is a gutsy survivor and I do respect him for that, as well as his service to our country.

I also respect him for choosing Sarah as his running mate.

You’re welcome. A lot of intelligent people have been browbeaten into silence the past few weeks on FR. Like I’ve said, there’s an ill wind blowing and it bodes poorly for our side.

On behalf of traditional Catholics, I apologize for the behavior of some on this thread. We aren’t all vicious and spiteful. Please don’t get that impression. There are many solidly religious people who don’t like the direction the party is headed.

” It is hard to demonize someone when you speak with and spend time with them every day. “

LOL, I have hired folks trapped in the horrific queer lifestyle, I have had them as employees, friends, customers and even family. They have been queer, bisexual, transexual and just plain odd.

I do not demonize them, I pray for them. I recognize they are trapped in an horrific evil, one3 that can be escaped from. And many have escaped. So much for ‘genetic’, no?

As a child I was molested by a homosexual male. As an Airman in the Air Force I was once more groped by a homosexual. I knew homosexuals in the military, and in my civilian career. They did attempt to recruit. They were offensive, obnoxious, and openly contemptuous of authority. So, just how am I supposed to feel about them?

I have had some experience with the child welfare system, and agree with you that foster care is often reprehensible. But it is the liberal doctrine that families must be kept together at all cost that keeps children is that system, not a lack of adoptive parents who are heterosexual. Refusing to allow adoption across race lines is another of the problems with the system. It is not necessary to place children with persons who practice a behavior which God has called an abomination to empty the foster homes, it can be done by refocusing our concern on the children, and away from the need to justify having child welfare systems.

It was not until after you had come here promoting your ideas and philosophies that the members began to respond defensively. The ADMIN MOD then reminded you of the nature of the venue in which you had poked a hornets nest.
