Obama's brags his 'Cap and Trade' plan will 'bankrupt' coal plant builders

Change we can freeze to death by:

Let me sort of describe my overall policy.

What I've said is that we would put a cap and trade system in place that is as aggressive, if not more aggressive, than anybody else's out there.

I was the first to call for a 100% auction on the cap and trade system, which means that every unit of carbon or greenhouse gases emitted would be charged to the polluter. That will create a market in which whatever technologies are out there that are being presented, whatever power plants that are being built, that they would have to meet the rigors of that market and the ratcheted down caps that are being placed, imposed every year.

So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it's just that it will bankrupt them because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted.

These remarks were made by Obama on January 17 of this year. Not surprisingly this audio was hidden until now because the interview was with the far left San Francisco Chronicle. Here's the entire audio clip: [PLEASE GO TO http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2008/11/obamas_brags_his_cap_and_trade.html]

This illustrates better than anything the folly of "cap and trade" proposals. Obama plans to use his C&T plan as a gigantic club to beat up on power companies and coal companies (and the miners) if they don't meet his arbitrary and capricious "targets" that drop every year regardless of any progress technologically in finding ways to mitigate the carbon output of power plants.

It will almost certainly cause a lot of smaller coal companies to either cut their work force as the demand for coal - our most abundant energy source - shrinks and probably drive a lot of these smaller concerns out of business.

And what about his gloating about driving businesses to bankruptcy? Has there ever been a presidential candidate who looked forward to the prospect of destroying someone's life's work and costing thousands of people their jobs?

But at least the Euro-twits pushing Global Warming won't be mad at us anymore.

Forget freezing, how long will we survive without electricity? Looking more and more like the world of Atlas Shrugged.

Good to hear. I’m afraid Iowa will fall Obama’s way so an upset win in Pennsylvania would be awesome.

I’m in Florida & guess I’m getting all my blankets up over the windows. Progress Engergy already told us to expect prices from $40-$50 more because of the power plant that hasn’t even been built yet. Looks like Obama if he wins will really freeze us out. Its going to be really bad & I’m worried about the people in the northern states that depend on more heat in the winter. I have a disabled husband that needs heat in the winter as he gets cold easy but I know its going to be ok as I seen a very large rainbow tonight. I guess its the Irish in me.

Obama will increase your Electricity Bill, by increasing emission fines on the Coal Industry until it is “bankrupt”
Obama will make you pay more for your Petrol, by not allowing more Offshore Drilling

His plans effect everyone, everyone’s electricity and petrol will be more under Obama.

They should be hammering him just like they did on offshore drilling, because Obama's plans affect everyone. Everyone's electricity and petrol bills will cost more under Obama

So unless you live in a hut and dont have a car like his brother in Africa, Obama will be taking more money out of your pocket. McCain will save you money.

Within 2-3 years there will be routine blackouts in the DC area unless they can get some planned power lines built. Lots of opposition to them. If no more coal plants come on line, blackouts in DC are guaranteed. Could be a national security concern.

You kill the coal power plants, it will mean going without power for plants, homes, hospitals, nursing homes, schools, gov't buildings...on and on. How will the coal miners have power to run their equipment? Won't need as many miners if the coal production need is cut by one half or more. The steel mills will close because they have no power to make steel...which means the auto industry is impacted, then there is the railroads who depend heavily on hauling coal and cars....businesses that run in tandem with the coal industry, drip, drip pretty soon a depression worse than Hoover's!

It'd take 10 years to get a nuke plant up and running or more. Natural gas is out of the question as they won't let you drill for it in the US. Ditto oil.

So the end game is revealed, destroy America as a world power and drain all of our wealth to those who hate us.

I will not live as a slave to world communists.

Isn’t that the kind of prophecy from the Muslim world? I believe Obie Hussein loves America, at least not his friends or associates.

Any person who will vote to allow a child born during a botched abortion to die without medical help LOVES NO ONE, NOT HIMSELF, NOT GOD, NOT HIS WIFE OR CHILDREN.

So he doesn’t love our republic.
