Obama opens account with landslide win in Dixville Notch
Press Trust Of India ^ | 11/4/08

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama today won handsomely in the first election returns of the 2008 presidential race, winning 15 of 21 votes cast in Dixville Notch, New Hampshire. People in the isolated village in New Hampshire's northeast corner voted just after midnight Tuesday.

It was the first time since 1968 that the village leaned Democratic in an election.

Obama's rival, Republican John McCain, won 6 votes, CNN reported.

A full 100 per cent of registered voters in the village cast ballots.

The town, home to around 75 residents, has opened its polls shortly after midnight each election day since 1960, drawing national media attention for being the first place in the country to make its presidential preferences known.

The result in Dixville Notch is hardly a reliable bellwether for the eventual winner of the White House -- or even the result statewide, the report said.

While New Hampshire is a perennial swing state -- with 4 Electoral College votes at stake -- Dixville Notch consistently leans Republican. The last Democrat it picked was Hubert Humphrey over Richard Nixon in 1968.

President Bush won the town in a landslide in the last two elections: He captured 73 per cent of the vote in 2004 (19 residents picked Bush while six preferred Sen. John Kerry), and secured 80 per cent of the vote in 2000 (21 votes for Bush, five votes for Al Gore.) But villagers expected the results to be close this year given Democrats now outnumber Republicans there.

The town picked both John McCain and Barack Obama for the New Hampshire Democratic and Republican primaries in January. McCain ultimately won the state of New Hampshire, while Hillary Clinton upset Obama there. PTI

Relish the moment CNN. This may be your last hurrah for the next four years. Obama, you’re ahead, you’re ahead... I hear a good thumpin’ coming.

Like I said last night, the people in Dixville Notch don't have the luxury of an anonymous vote. There's only 21 of them. And there was probably ten times that number of MSM there to record the event.

Dixville Notch didn't want to be branded racists and have their town burnt to the ground by enraged Obamabots.

“After a victorious showing in the Iowa caucuses, where votes were cast publicly, polls predicted that Obama would also capture the New Hampshire Democratic primary election by a large margin over Hillary Clinton, a white senator. However, Clinton defeated Obama by three points in the New Hampshire race, where ballots were cast secretly, immediately initiating suggestions by some analysts that the Bradley effect may have been at work.”

Dunno, seems ominous to me considering the overwhelming votes George Bush got there the last 2 elections. I was hoping I’d wake up to hear it was nearly 100% McCain this morning.

The messiah has a list of their names as well. Risky if you’re trying to commit a hate crime by voting McCain/Palin.

That’s perfect, and, ah, who won in 1968?

Nixon 301 over Humphrey 191..sounds about right.

History will repeat itself.

They claim it’s voted Republican since 1964.

Just to put this in perspective, Bob Dole won this silly little tradition in November 1996 and went on to be thrashed both nationally and in New Hampshire.

Let’s wait for the REAL results . . .

Look what the Obamabots did to Joe the Plumber for making their messiah look bad. They did all they could to trash the man. Look how they went after Sarah Palin. And Bristol Palin. And little Trig.

In a tiny town with only 21 registered voters, there is not much chance of a secret ballot being cast.

Maybe the townsfolk included more than a few who were fearful of being trashed as racists by the post racial candidate and his followers.

Let's see how the vote goes around the rest of the country before we decide all is lost.

Literally, for the first time in my life (I'm 47) I'm scared - terrified - of a major party's candidate for POTUS

Many others feel exactly like you and understand this: FEAR is a much more powerful motivating emotion than GREED. Middle America is FEARFUL of this radical Marxist whereas his KoolAid drinkers are just GREEDY.

FEAR will trump GREED today at the ballot box!

I have been canvassing for McCain here in NH for several weeks and time and time again those I have polled/talked to have told me that they are "scared of Obama" "afraid" of him, "frightened", and "terrified" about what he wants to do to America. Every time they mentioned this their comments were unsolicited! There is genuine fear of Obamessiah/Obamusolinni in the heart of the electorate here in Southern (liberal) New Hampshire. This was BEFORE we learned that he wants to bankrupt the coal industry and cause everyone’s electric rates to "SKYROCKET"!

Many people also told me they have a very uncomfortable feeling about him because they do not really know who/what he is... too secretive and deceiving.

I am not wearing rose colored glasses; many here in NH have drunk the purple Obamessiah Socialist Kool Aid and (from personal experience I have learned) for those folks, no amount of truth about who Obama really is or what he says he really wants to do to America will change their minds. But for the rest of the electorate here it appears that they are VERY scared of him and VERY motivated to vote for McCain.

Do those who have drunk the Obamessiah Socialist Kool Aid, now make up the majority of the American electorate, or have we as a nation still maintained our God given roots and retained our sanity? We should know one way or another within 24 hours (someone call Jack Bauer).

I live in NH, and based on what I have seen in the last few weeks, Dixville Notch will be very close to the way the rest of the state votes ... NH is lost to Obama.

pretty close? I doubt that, NH may go Fauxbama, but by a 2 to 1 margin? Not likely.
