Title says it all...this is brutal...beyond brutal. Starting to know what it felt like to be Carter in 1980.
Now that polls are closed everywhere except Alaska, I can agree that it’s an epic disaster for McCain.
McCain took a big risk with Palin, and won big. McCain took a big risk with the bailout and lost big. To a first approximation it’s that simple. I’m not sure whether Paulson is on Obama’s payroll, but he definately did his part to help Obama win. The republican incumbents including Bush spending the last 8 years spending money like drunken sailors definitely did not help.
The Democrats have shown that a very far left candidate can win. We need a very far right candidate that conservatives can be as exited about as the liberals were for Obama. This is a good time to rethink/recommit to our principles and actually I would favour encouraging RINOS to go ahead and switch parties even if that means we lose even more seats.
Some lessons learned: (1) The polls were right. This was the same lesson taught in 2006, but aparently people didn’t pay attention then. (2) The PUMA effect and Bradly effect was over-rated and possibly even (for PUMAs) mythical. (3) Our next candidate needs an affirmative message for victory not just “I like Democrats and my opponent is ......”
Get used to it. The second Carter administration has officially begun.
So much for the “Solid South”. Both Va. and Fla. have now been taken over by Carpetbaggers once again, (And very possibly N.C.)
If McCain had forcefully opposed the bailout, he would have won.
I never thought I “would rather have a Clinton”
but right now Bill and Hill don’t look so bad.
Good golly, I thought from FR posts it was going to be a McCain landslide. How could this happen?
Not just ACORN. Many other variables involved.
That's what hurts the most for me I think. To quote Rush, "We are screwed."
I heard Pat Caddell say on Fox tonight that we are only at the beginning of this economic disaster.
Bull!, Hillary is as big a Saul Alinsky disciple as Obama. She is just better at hiding it.
I blame the Republican Party. Bob Dole would have had a better showing.
A party needs to recognize when a candidate has no charisma, and pull them aside before the primaries. The only reason that there are any red states at all on the board at this point is because of Sarah Palin.
It sickens me to know that the die was cast the moment New Hampshire Democrats swung the primary to McCain, and then he couldn’t even carry NH in the general. McCain should have listened to Clint Eastwood: “A man’s got to know his own limitations.”
Amen. We're not pessimists, we're realists.
That is likely.
And the democrats are likely to do just about everything wrong in response.
Dig in.
Another lesson is don’t attack your base when your base is going after your opponent...
McCain wanted to play nice in fear of being called a racists - which he was called anyway - and this, in part, is where it got him - and us.
Personelly I think the GOP leaders decided this year was lost long ago and pushed McCain as their token candidate much like Dole was. It was his turn and all and then kiss and say goodbye...
Republicans need to adopt the ways of their adversaries; Democrats NEVER prosecute, criticize or undermine their own caucus. Dem voters reelect impeached judges, Congressman indicted on bribery charges, and tax cheats that Chair Ways and Means Committees. Republicans honor principles and run their members out of town. No more!
You are correct, my friend.
IMHO, the Nation has been "trending left" for many years and the economic dilemma provided the catalyst for that which has transpired.
Quite possibly, given the circumstances, no Republican candidate could have won.
They did vote for it in reality, but Obama had a clever way of disguising the way he described it.
At this point, we just need to work to defeat his plans and regroup for the future.
Liberal ? JFK was a classic liberal.
No, what has been elected is someone so far from the mainstream of America: Rev. Wright, Bill Ayers, Tony Rezko, et al, a lightweight who never won an election fair and square, but knocked off his opponents through Chicago tactics.
I still have the image of 0bama giving McCain "the finger."
He is not a noble man, but a usurper.
As Lady Lynn de Rothchild says, those who supported him, including the Kennedys and the Clintons, have responsibility for what follows.
I am predicting the worst economic downturn since 1929.
Pat Caddell stated that we are only at the beginning of this economic disaster.

First step is to get 35 Senators retired in 2010. Incumbents are now the enemy, they all need to go.
