I love Governor Palin and I would hope it would be her in 2012 - however, there is no historical model or precedent for a candidate on a losing ticket to get the nomination for the top spot next time around. (If there is, someone please correct me.)
That being said, however, I do believe we are in new times - a time when precedents are being created - and believe firmly that the GOP should elect Sarah Palin to be the party nominee in 2012.
What the GOP absolutely cannot do is continue to pay homage to old war horses because “it is their turn,” such as was the case with Bob Dole in 1996 and John McCain this year. In other words, no Huckabees or Romneys on 2012 or beyond. I think we unite as best as possible between Governor Palin and, perhaps, Governor Jindal. I know a lot of Freepers like Sanford as well, but I just don’t see it with him - certainly not as top of the ticket material in 2012.
Oh, that has happened. They get the nomination. But they don't win.
Agreed. I believe Palin is finished as far as national office aspirations. Not a good track record for losing VP candidates in recent history.
Jindal is the favorite right now, but a lot can happen in 2-3 years. Much depends on the mood of the nation after a few years of the Obama-Pelosi-Reid experience. We may be able to nominate a ham sandwich and waltz back in. That’s how we got where we are tonight - a nation able to elect a black Marxist is a nation in a very bad mood.
