Don't blame McCain and what now

Consider this:

1. The most articulate and persuasive conservative on the campaign trail was a plumber from Ohio who only got there because he asked a question;

2. It was the most anti-Republican climate in recent history even before the bailout;

3. There wasn’t one positive reason provided to vote for Republicans in general.

4. Obama enjoyed the combination of a huge money advantage and the favorable MSM;

On the bright side, Republicans gains tend to come when we’re the minority party. Sadly, that’s when our politicians return to their philosophically conservative roots. The current crop of Republican politicians seems to be better at espousing conservative values than governing by them.

Hopefully, the transfusion of new blood needed because of the retirement and voting out of much of the old guard will infuse a new breed in the Palin, Jindal, Steele mold, not only in diversity but in their optimistic enthusiasm of conservative values. It’s becoming clear that symbolism matters, even if it should not. Fine, I can live with that so long as it's reflected in candidates that are conservative at their core.

We shouldn’t blame McCain but we should take a good look at those who from the beginning promoted him.

Obama was such a weak candidate that even with all the advantages of an anti-Republican climate, the race was still fairly close.

McCain was such a weak candidate that he couldn’t defeat one of the weakest canddates ever to run for the White House...weak in the sense of not having issues, etc, but strong in thuggery and corruption.

i will blame mccain. the nomination was not meant as a retirement gift. but more than that, i will blame a republican party that allows its nominee to be dictated by states that the nominee cannot hope to carry in the subsequent election. we must find a weighting system that rewards, with additional influence in choosing the nominee, those states which have loyally voted for the republican candidate. i’m talking superdelegates, but more even than that. the very idea that mccain got where he did on states that he lost 2:1 is not just absurd, it’s obscene.

This was one of the better articles out today about the great Republican debacle of 2008!

The liberal agenda has been tried in every country EXCEPT America and has failed miserably. There will be no choice but to go the Conservative route in 2010. IF Hussein doesn’t re-write the constitution to fit his needs first.

Of course I blame McCain and the idiots that nominated him in the first place.

His unwillingness to get into the Rev. Wright issue, and his bungling of the economic crisis, his support of the bailout, his immigration positions, his “Maverick-ness”.

Lousy candidate.

I only thank McCain for his military service to our country and supporting the surge.

We shouldn’t blame McCain but we should take a good look at those who from the beginning promoted him.

Why? He had the life story, he was pro life, he was anti-big government, he was a defense hawk, supporter of the GWOT, and he opposed reckless government spending. His drawbacks: immigration, 2nd Amendment issues, bank bailout. But, all-in-all he was a much improved person to hold the reins of government than either the current idiot in the WH or the next one to occupy it!

Still the results speak for themselves. It is as if in 1952, the Communist Party candidate, let us say, Gus Hall, had won against the war hero Eisenhauer! Shame on America.

When you nominate the self-described party maverick to be your standard bearer, there are political consequences. Simple as that. McCain became the presumptive nominee of the party with just 31% of the primary vote [just prior to the Potomac primaries], thanks to winner take all and open primaries.

Don't count on it - there are plenty of Rinos out there (and right here on FR) trying to lay this defeat on the conservatives and Sarah Palin.

The primary system needs to change now. I’m tired of the kind of candidate those first few states force on us every time.

We live in an age where everything has to be quantified. If the conservatives are ever to regain power, they need someone with credentials that voters — particularly young voters can understand.

Mac did everything to discourage the youth vote just short of yelling at them to keep off his lawn.

The conservative movement needs a technician — someone who understands, uses and is adept at everyday technology as well as the terminology.

And they need better speech writers and campaign organizers.
Half of Obama’s campaign was conducted online and through text messages,twitter and emails.

And most of all, the net conservative can’t be afraid to break with the tired old lines. Mac lost hundreds of thousands of voters the nanosecond he said the economy was “sound.”

His drawbacks: immigration, 2nd Amendment issues, bank bailout.

and the fact that in appearance and demeanor he was approximately hank hill's father.

I agree with pretty much everything you say.

I still think if George Bush had done two things, we would have been in a better situation (Not saying we would have won).

1. Dump Cheney before the 2004 election and pick a young conservative VP who would have been ready to step into the White House. (Nothing against Cheney but it would have been easier to combat an empty suit who had to learn on the job. And it wouldn't have been seen as a political move considering his heart trouble.)

2. No bailout. Let the market realign. The people would have understood "No Corporate Welfare" better than "This stimulus package will stabilize the economy."

Just my two cents.

The operative word is “articulate”. Look at the Pubbie line-up since 1988:
Bush 88
Bush 92
Dole 96
Bush 00
Bush 04
McCain 08
Could you find a more inarticulate bunch? It is amazing we won 3 of the last 6 elections.

In 2012 we need a smooth communicator such as Jindal to carry the Conservative banner, and who is willing and able to stand up to the media and 'rats.
