This morning, after having absorbed the substantial victory of Barack Obama, I noticed a couple of interesting items in the data. Barack Obama certainly won this race, but he won it with just a little more votes than George Bush won in his re-election bid, and the turnout models came up short.
In 2004, Bush beat John Kerry by winning 62.04 million votes. In 2008, Obama won 62.443 million, a gain of only 400,000. In 2004, Kerry garnered 59.028 million votes; John McCain only got 55.386 million. That means this election saw 3.24 million fewer votes than four years ago. Far from being more energized, the nation appeared to be more apathetic.

The college kids came out in record numbers. Evidence of this is in Franklin Cty., Ohio, where Columbus is situated. This is also the county that houses Ohio State. The reason so many of these key counties (including Summit County as well) went to Obama can be attributed directly to this.
Then they join the DU and complain how unfair Republicans are.
This makes no sense. Everyone was reporting the most insanely long lines they had ever seen...
I’m wondering how many of those were legitimate votes versus ACORN repeats. If the vote and campaign finance systems were cleaned up I think the story would be different. I think there was a lot of foreign money behind the 0 and more voting fraud then usual. but will this be examined - NO. Our Country as we knew it is done.
Sorry to rant but I most blow off somewhere.
Actually, from what I’ve heard, about 60-80% of African Americans consider themselves conservative - but always vote for Democrats. Since they’re about 12% of the total electorate, they may account for a large amount of those who voted D...

The polls said it was the 18-29 year olds voting for obama but the college students made up a majority of that. That was also evident by all the reported campus parties last evening. I don’t believe anything the way I did when I was in college. I was dumb and naive about politics back then but thought I knew it all. I am proud that my 3 grown kids voted for McCain because they looked at the issues and what was better for our economy, security instead of a 500$ check to buy their vote.
Just this very minute Britt Hume reported on the “record” turnout.
Amazing, isn’t it? If 60-80% consider themselves conservative, then the only reason they would be voting for the Dems would be for welfare programs. Many of them have family in the military, and the Dems are not kind to the military, so I can’t imagine that would be a big reason for their support of the Dems.

I think McCain would have won if not for the collapse of banks and the market some 6 weeks ago.
Once that happened, people simply said “Who is President now”?
Answer - George Bush, the guy who we have suffered this war which isn’t easy with.
Rather than take the time to look into who was really responsible (Clinton, Democrats), instead many voters just voted against Republicans and President Bush.
The stupid thing about it of course is that those who voted for a change because of these banks and market collapses instead voted in the source of the problems. They basically rewarded the bad ones who caused the problems with more power.

A poll worker / vote counter from Ohio posted something here yesterday evening. It seems his county - a reliable Republican county - got an EIGHTY PERCENT turnout yesterday. This in a county that beat Kerry by only 2% in 2004, because Democrats turned out so hard that year, trying to win Ohio for Kerry. I forget the percent of Republicans he said voted in 2004, but it was less than 80%.
So, with an 80% turnout of Republicans yesterday, surely they walked all over the Democrats in this county in Ohio this year, right?
NO, actually. Obama took the county by a 33% margin, with LESS Dim participation than in 2004. Which means that about 25% or maybe even 30% of the Republicans voted for Obama. Or maybe almost 100% of the "no party" voters went for Obama.
Why didn't we get the "granny" vote? We gave them a billion dollars of free medication, exactly for the reason of buying those votes.
Why didn't we get the illegal alien vote? Neither Bush nor McCain has any interest in enforcing our border laws.
Like Rush said, a lot of Republicans lost yesterday. So what - conservatives haven't run a candidate since 1994.
It looks like 136.6 million Americans will have voted for president this election, based on 88 percent of the country's precincts tallied and projections for absentee ballots
That means there are a lot of absentee ballots yet to be counted.....

Obama had 62.443 million and McCain got 55.386 million....I think that adds up to slightly below 118,000,000...which according to the projection of the professor leaves 16.6 million votes yet to be counted.
I think Karl Rove said the young turnout was about the same as 2004 but what did it for Obama was what did it for us in the past.
Obama picked off I think 10% more of the Evangelicals then Kerry. I think 5% more of the Independents then Kerry, Really high AA turnout blah blah blah

I bet that 20% also claims to support our military and their missions but decided that putting them in more peril was worth the price of their vote.
Can you imagine uping for the military under "that one?" He doesn't have any use for them. Brownshirts, maybe - but an actual military?

McCain went on a foolhardy view that the so called supposed air of running a respectful campain would provide cover for the fact that McCain was too damn occupied with not giving away the store of accrued favors and years of insider entanglements so as upset his own Washingtonian apple cart.
McCain unable to highlight enough differences of his own less blatant globalist socialist perspective with respect to Obama’s more blatant socialist perspective.
Palin was his prop.
And his own cynical tepid sales job was seen for what it was.
