Rahm Emanuel has been described as a street fighter with a killer instinct—as explosive, profane, wired and ruthless—sometimes as a compliment, sometimes not. But no one has ever cast him in the role of elder statesman

Most clear-minded observers would agree that among the mortal body blows that have brought the Democrats to their present ebb, the passage of NAFTA in 1993, with consequent evisceration of the American industrial economy, must count as among the most lethal.

Key to that passage was Emmanuel, who directed the Clinton White House operation to get the treaty passed by any means necessary.

For years, Emanuel was the political brains of Bill Clinton's White House. Intense to the point of ferocity, he was known for taking on the most daunting tasks -- the ones no one else wanted -- and pulling off the seemingly impossible, from banning assault weapons to beating back the Republican-led impeachment. "Clinton loved Rahm," recalls one staffer, "because he knew that if he asked Rahm to do something, he would move Heaven and Earth -- not necessarily in that order -- to get it done."

"He's got this big old pair of brass balls, and you can just hear 'em clanking when he walks down the halls of Congress," says Paul Begala, who served with Emanuel on Clinton's staff.

There's the story about the time he sent a rotting fish to a pollster who had angered him.

the night after Clinton was elected, Emanuel was so angry at the president's enemies that he stood up at a celebratory dinner with colleagues from the campaign, grabbed a steak knife and began rattling off a list of betrayers, shouting "Dead! . . . Dead! . . . Dead!" and plunging the knife into the table after every name. "When he was done, the table looked like a lunar landscape," one campaign veteran recalls. "It was like something out of The Godfather. But that's Rahm for you."

******

In 1999 he left the White House and returned to Chicago where he made millions as an investment banker.

Rep. Rahm Emanuel is ducking questions about his role in the Immigration and Naturalization Service’s Citizenship USA Initiative, which he helped direct back in 1996 during the Clinton Administration.

Emanuel, in his capacity as a senior White House adviser to President Bill Clinton, was well known in Department of Justice circles as a “shadow Attorney General,” according to a former Clinton DOJ official.

Emanuel was identified in a 2000 DOJ Inspector General report as a key player in a taxpayer-funded scheme to fast-track legal and illegal immigrants through any means possible for citizenship so that they could vote for the Democrat party. The program was called Citizenship USA.

I was thinking the same thing.

I think if they do that, they will be sealing their fate for 2010.

Then again, if Reid tried to do that, I could see Clinton possibly trying to challenge Reid for the leadership post based on his recklessness.

We’re the party of change,” Emanuel tells me. “We’re the party of a new direction — a break from rampant cronyism and the status quo. Period.”

Lmao get out of here with that BS. He’s the first one the repubs need to dirty.

He is not well liked on DU. Atleast some of the posts I read. I am sure that will change.

Heard Rove talking to Neil Cavuto about this appointment. According to Rove, Emanuel is a real nasty guy who, as a top advisor to Bill Clinton, would regularly get in the face of Republicans in Congress over their votes on legislation. According to Rove, this wasn’t the job of the President’s advisor, but rather the party chief (Whip?) Rove said there is no love lost between Emanuel and Hillary Clinton, because Emanual forced Hillary’s health care plan to take a back seat to other pressing issues more expedient to Bill’s political future. Rove also said that during last night’s speech, Obama made the claim that he wanted bi-partisanship, but with this appointment, he appears to be going in exactly the opposite direction, because Emanuel is a very partisan person.

Wouldn’t be something if they pissed off all the moderate Democrats enough that they started voting with the Repubs in Congress?!

We’re going to have to read some Greek tragedies to understand what’s going on and going to happen.

I think I may have posted this before in the last twenty-four hours, but isn’t it ASTOUNDING that all these Obama voters just fell for Form without Substance? Isn’t it just truly amazing that they didn’t question anything about him? I mean how stupid can you be??

“Guess I should watch Road Warrior tonight.”

That was on tv in my neck of the woods last night...I always seem to end up watching it again.

Bush is a wussy. A fake cowboy. All hat and no cattle. He refused to prosecute Clinton and refused to prosecute Obama and his minions. Well, he is about to find out their hatred and venom for him and all other Republicans. You can’t bitch later when you are out of pwoer.

Consider how many Obambi voters get their “news” from Jon Stewart, Bill Maher, Keith Olberdork, et al the only question is how do they manage to function at all?

Ari was agent to Micheal Moore's F9/11.

“Lifting scenes from Michael Moore's anti-war film “Fahrenheit 9/11”, Rashedeen’s narrator taunts President Bush in softly spoken English over graphic images of Humvees being blown up by roadside bombs, and purportedly dead U.S. troops. “

“Yes, he is Jewish, the child of left-wing Israelis who want to give Jerusalem away so there will be peace and kumbaya.”

Irgun is left wing?
His children go to a Conservative Jewish Day School. He pushed nafta over Hillarycare. So his politics are more centrist but very nasty.

Well I wouldn’t fault anyone for trying to get in the way of HillaryCare — Emanuel probably realized the turkey would kill Bill’s re-election hopes.

But I have heard/read many times that Emanuel is a really nasty POS, and one of the most hyper-partisan people around.

Strange, in a former life (20+ years ago) I knew two people who are close to him — not friends of mine, thank heavens, but people whose paths were intersecting with mine for awhile...... but they are both HUGE Demagogues themselves, so they probably think he’s great for the “cause”......
