The election of Barack Obama to the presidency is an historic moment whose significance has not been unnoticed. Americans of all backgrounds, races, religions recognize the symbolic importance of an African-American ascending to the highest office in the country. Particularly people of color are acknowledging that indeed, America is truly is the land of opportunity. And as Colin Powell put it when he endorsed ...

If ever there was a justifiable reason...
Nope.... just for those who don’t have ‘slave blood’.
No. It will be implemented with a vengeance now. Affirmative Action on steroids.
Pull the plug on affirmitive action ?
I seriously doubt it,
it’s about to get ratcheted up several notches.
Haaaaaaahaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaaaa!
That’s there’s funny, I don’t care who you are.
AA and victimhood are a way of life for many, and it won’t go way. If this country makes it to a future where the population is 80% black, there will still be AA.
Nothing will ever make up for slavery, ever. Not time, not money, not electing a black man. Nothing.
I hope that we see a sea change in attitudes about affirmative action. After all, if we can see a black man elected president of the United States, doesn’t that indicate that voters are not discriminating based on race?
What about Deval Patrick being governor of Mass. where he couldn’t have been elected without white voter support?
what about Doug Wilder in Virginia, again elected governor of a state where he couldn’t have won if significant numbers of white voters simply voted no to a black candidate?
I’m sure the liberals will talk about how millions of blacks are still grappling with poverty, in spite of seeing black elected officials in high offices.
Yes... it will always be the "Joker is Wild Card" that can be pulled out at any time, to win any hand.
We already gave up on equal rights when the government takes money away from one person and gives it to another. So, the poor and minorities have MORE rights than the rest of us.
Prediction: to level the playing field, we will have to have minorities get equal paying jobs to Anglos AND job counts. So, affirmative action will REALLY be pushed and enforced.
And wait for the infrastructure debacle. Who do you think will receive all those contracts and be hired? If an Anglo gets any of the money, i will be shocked (unless it is a Democratic supporter, of course).
Unfortunately, it ain’t happening. Libs will say that only enlightened whites like themselves made BHO’s election possible. They’ll make the case that blacks will still need protection from evil KKKonservatives when Libs aren’t around.
I think a more appropriate question is: “Will it assuage White guilt”?
I was just thinking of this exact thing this morning. Then I came to work and had a “diversity” update e-mail in my in-box. Pretty ironic....
Millions more Americans will be grappling with poverty four years from now. That's how socialist economics works.
I agree. The Obama election will be seen as proof that affirmative action works.
The question is what will happen if he stumbles? That is what will slow the affirmative action surge down. People will realize that you just can't put people in positions to fail just because they fit the right profile.
Unfortunately, a lot of good people will have to suffer in order for this lesson to be learned.
THis is the same question I posed yesterday.
Time to dump affirmative action and have ALL people get ahead by the quality of their work. NOT the color of their skin.
What? That would put the Jesse Jacksons/Al Sharptons of the world standing on employment lines like the rest. How positively delicious.
On would think, but there some things that bear inspection. There is a question of authenticism here.
Sure, he does not reflect a ton of sunlight, but he had a white mom, was raised outside the hood, went to college, went to law school and can’t dance (ask that white chick with the TV show).
So, we still have a long road ahead. /do i have to?
This writer is either kidding, brain-damaged or the worlds biggest sucker. Affirmative action will explode all over the nation. And anyone standing in the way will be attacked like Palin. Don’t expect any of our RINO senators or congressmen to voice opposition to the new era of Jesse Jackson. They will be too busy expanding the hiding places under their desks.
I’m afraid we’re always going to be stuck with it.
