It's funny, I met some Barr voters when I was canvassing a precinct in a "swing state" last weekend.
These folks were VERY eccentric. To put it politely.
Not that being eccentric is necessarily bad. But I was joking to my partner that I could tell I'd got a Barr voter when some crazy-eyed nut came to answer the door.

Lots of Libertarian bashing going on in this election post-mortem. Lots of people trying to blame Libertarians for this debacle.
I've never understood the assumption that every last Libertarian would have shaved their beards, put down their bongs and voted for McCain had a Libertarian candidate not been on the ticket.
As you said, many of them are eccentric. I know a few of them and they're not wayward Republicans. They have as much contempt for the Social Conservatives as they do the Big-Government Left. Very few "true" Libertarians would've voted Republican. It is foolish to add Barr's numbers to McCain's and wonder what could have been.
