The famed movie critic Pauline Kael famously said that she couldn't believe how Nixon won in '72 as "everyone I KNOW voted for McGovern." You can't judge a an electorate by your circle of friends or neighborhood.
My parents live in Boca Raton, the buckle of the Bagel Belt, and all of their neighbors voted for Obama, so I am NOT surprised. Obama won the SE and the Orlando area, which is enough to win the state as a whole.
LOL
I’m suffering a lot since obama maybe won
the fat lady sings etc
now if NC has to count those military votes yet as well as VA
who know
IN has turned
who can do the EV count on that
please come on I know I am clutching at straws here but it keeps me going
When I was a kid (in the 50's) we used to vacation in Fort Lauderdale and my Dad retired there in the 80's.His second wife died about 6 months after they arrived so he left.Bagel belt.I've never heard that.Funny...funny!
'I live in a rather special world,' Miss Kael said, continuing: 'I only know one person who voted for Nixon. Where they are I don't know. They're outside my ken. But sometimes when I'm in a theater I can feel them.'As you can see, her meaning was twisted in the apocrypha. But it sure is a fun anecdote, even if misrepresenting her. :-)--2 Critics Here Focus on Films As Language Conference Opens, by Israel Shenker; The New York Times; December 28, 1972; p. 33 (or p.
