This is just anecdotal, but you are seeing ALOT less illegals coming to the New York and New Jersey area than you did in the 1990s. I know that many of the Ecuadorians started going to Europe after post-9/11 airport rules made it a b-tch to travel, and that many of the Brazilians have gone home due to their booming economy (which will soon go bust). Even the Mexicans and Guats aren’t coming in as large numbers as they were just five years ago.

Is the slowdown of Mexican illegals do to stronger border control, more stringent employer, government oversight, deportation, general disillusionment in the (not so great) pot of gold north of the border or fear of being caught? Just trying to understand the reasons. ;-)
