Stapleton said some campaign staff members controlled Palin too tightly, keeping her from the press and admonishing her when she made calls to radio hosts Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, and others.
"Instead of just letting her be who she wanted to be they still felt this need to control. ...There were a few times where she actually did sneak in phone calls and was reprimanded for picking up the phone and placing a few calls on her own," Stapleton said.
"She felt that she really did want to go out and speak and get out there more. One of them was to (the Daily News). There were a number of times where she reached out and really wanted to speak and she was told she needed to follow the script and she needed to follow what they wanted her to do and that wasn't in the plan."
Stapleton said Palin called the staff of Fox News commentator Bill O'Reilly. But the campaign got wind of it and told her O'Reilly had canceled the interview, which wasn't true.
Randy Scheunemann, McCain's foreign policy aide, contacted the Daily News at Stapleton's request Thursday and defended the governor. He praised Palin and said anonymous attacks from other staffers are "disappointing and dishonorable."
"It's really amazing, I think it's unprecedented in terms of presidential politics to have this level of vindictiveness and pettiness. It's like these people fell out of favor with a middle school 14-year-old girls' clique. It's really unbelievable," Scheunemann said.

Sarah actually had the gall to believe that the McCain campaign really wanted to win.
That paper from San Fran reported today that Palin answered the door clad only in a towel! Tomorrow they will have her answering the door naked!

McCain was in losing mode when Palin bucked their defeatism. McCain, probably on the advice of staffers, gave up Michigan. Palin said, “Send me!” I never thought McCain was a loser (thought a lot of things about him, but not that.) but I think he had a loser mentality advising him. These are the same rats jumping the ship the day before the election leaking stuff about Palin. Rats like these are professional political staffers who, when their candidate begins to go down, are looking for their next job. Part of that process is to NOT let the blame for the loss be pinned on them. Thus the Palin blameshifting.
Good grief. These are the people who were going to be in the White House as Republicans? I really wish that Newt would step up and take back control of this party behind the scene. He has tremendous ability to build coalitions. This RINO/Moderate stuff has to stop immediately.

I didn’t really listen, my wife puts it on as background noise in the morning. I could tell she was lying though, her lips were moving.
Palin is probably the only one who could have brought evangelicals and South Park Republicans together. LOL
But according to a lot of people on this site, Bill O’Reilly was supporting and assisting the trashing of Ms. Palin. Open your eyes and ears people, just don’t react.
If any of this is true and not part of the cleanup by Bomber and CO., then the GOP is on life support.
The truth is McLame would have had trouble carrying even AZ without Sarah and Joe the Plumber. The people responsible for these articles must be exposed and expelled or there will be no more GOP. The socialists can carry on with glee. McCain needs to either come out and denounce these people in no uncertain terms or get on the other side of the isle.
Bill O’Reilly DOES know.
