BAGHDAD — Iraq's government spokesman says the U.S. offers of changes in the draft security agreement were "not enough."
Ali al-Dabbagh also is asking Washington to offer new amendments if it wants the pact to win parliamentary approval.
Al-Dabbagh's comments on Monday were the first public statements by the Iraqis to last week's U.S. response to an Iraqi request for changes in the draft agreement.
The pact would keep U.S. troops in Iraq until 2012 and give Iraq a greater role in the management of the U.S. mission.

I’ve really been on board with helping the Iraqi’s get a human rights based government. It could really start the whole ball rolling in the Middle East. But, if the Iraq’s don’t want the US to help protect their democracy, what can we do? Pull out and let them kill each other. I hate to say this, but some cultures just aren’t that bright. They’d obviously rather dance with the dictatorship and opprerssion that they know than dance with the freedom they don’t appreciate.
If the libs and Europe were on board with freedom in Iraq we maybe could still push through and figure it out but, those guys want oppression and chaos in the Middle East too. We’re out of options, I’m affraid.

It’s a fact that is immediately obvious to the most casual observer.

I’m a white dude who grew up in Oakland. I was the minority. My first day of kindergarten they showed us MLK’s famous ‘I have a Dream’ Speech. To even imagine that one culture was inferior to another culture would have been grounds for suspension as far as I was taught.
It was pounded into my head that ‘no man is truly free until every single man is truly free.’ This concept formed the basis of my support for the Iraq mission. Funny as it may sound, my liberal learnings are at the basis of my conservative views. Anyway, judging by how my friends and neighbors have responded to the Iraq advenuture, I guess my teachers forgot to say, “...not counting the Iraqi’s. Screw those guys.”
With that said, my citezens of Iraq have been a major dissapointment to me. Their tormentor was tossed aside by the US. They’ve been offered help on all levels. And, the only thing we ask for in return is their partnership in peace. The ingrates can’t even muster that up from their giant ego’s.
Look, we’re there for our own reasons. I get that. But, this is an historic opportunity for the Muslim world to embrace freedom....to embrace their future....to embrace their culture.” But, these numb-nuts are currently dangerously close to throwing it all away. If that happens, the only question left to answer is who will be the next dictator? Personally, I won’t give a crap. I’ll be living my life in freedom. They can have their torture chambers if that’s what they want.
Apparently the recent bombings and attacks have been by foreigners not Iraqis. If Iraq can manage on their own by now, then let them. But they won’t be managing the US Army and Marines.

Sadly, too long for a tagline but nonetheless, very well said.
It does seem that they don’t want to do the work necessary to sustain the freedom from tyranny that has been paid for in the blood and treasure from the USA and others.
I’m REAL tired of the US being the worlds policeman. If we have no vital strategic interest to protect, then let’s stay home and drink a beer on the front porch.
We’ll all be happier.
Back in the day, I used to get in political arguments about the greatness of ther US. People would always say, “The US is hypocritical because it supports dictatorships abroad. I agreed. Since then, I’ve supported Band Aid, Hands Across America, the Peace Corp, Bono, and sally Struthers. All of those ventures proved useless. Leadership and living conditions in the countries I was supposedly helping never changed.
It only seemed logical to see what the military could do. And, since it aint happening in Iraq, even with overwhelming force at our disposal, I suppose one can conclude that all the cards have finally been played.
I’m never going to feel guilty again over wretched souls half a world away. The US tried to help. They simply don’t want it, need it, understand it, or appreciate it. So, I’ll buy goods, oil, and services from their oppressor in good conscience. Then, I’ll pop open a beer, watch the game, and sleep well. If Iraq fails, I simply won’t give a crap anymore.
