Michelle Obama, wife of US President-elect Barack Obama, says she is "begging" her mother to move to Washington to be with their daughters who dote on their grand mother.
"I am begging my mother", Marian Robinson, to leave her home on Chicago's south side and move to the White House to be with Malia (10) and Sasha (seven), Michelle said and hoped that her mother will heed to the request.
"The girls are going to need her, as part of their sense of stability," Michelle told Newsweek.
"And what is true for my mom is that she does anything for us and her grandkids. All they have to do is look at her with sad eyes and she's done for," she said.
The family is expected to move to the White House after Obama is inaugurated as US President on January 20. Marian regularly made a 10-minute journey from her home to the Obamas' residence to look after her grand daughters for almost two years while their parents were campaigning for the primaries and Presidential elections.
Michelle said her mother initially told her that "there wasn't enough space" and that she "didn't want to intrude" into their space.
"I think she's going to come," she said. If 71-year-old Marian decides to stay in the White House, it will be an important addition to new White House team as the country's next First Family prepares for the domestic makeover.

Barack Obama was raised by his grandmother when his mom put her own directionless life ahead of her childrens’.
Can you just imagine what the press would have done if Governor Palin had BEGGED her mother to help with the children during the campaign?
Sarah would have been portrayed as a failure, yada, yada, yada.
Surely the general public can see how the media is so biased. There is no reporting of the news anymore, only journalists opinions which have political overtones.

Grandmas are a good thing. There are a lot of demands placed on the presidents wife and having Grandma there will only help the kids....
I knew michelle was a mean lightweight. She wants to party her four years on our dime and let gama take care of the kids.

Actually, that is very smart for Michelle to do. I pity any child growing up in the White House. Having the stabiity of a granny around will be very important to the girls’ emotional well-being.
Michelle ahs too many parties to go to. Why not just “abort” them instead of having them as a “burdern”, as Obama says children should be treated?
I also like this. It’s about the only trace of humanity in this family. His two girls deserve to have at least one caring adult living with them.
I do not like Obama, but this is just stupid to attack them on wanting to have the girl’s grandmother around.
If I was first lady, I would absolutely love it if my mom could come and help with my kids. It would give me more a sense of normalcy and someone I trust to talk to.
I can’t handle petty attacks on anyone. I hated it during Carter and Clinton when people would make jokes about Amy and Chelsea’s looks. I just think it’s not classy.
This is the same thing.
Let’s attack Obama. We have enough ammunition for doing just that.
If a Republican did this, she would be branded a weak woman by all the media and dems alike.
She will get a pass on this too.
