MATAMOROS - Mexican Army Troops continue checking the weaponry of municipal police after they had locked themselves up in the police headquarters protesting the arrest of some fellow policemen.

According to reports by the Municipal Public Security Secretariat, at around midnight Tuesday, military troops began an operation where they detained municipal police patrolmen from units 299, 258 and 298.

After the arrest, fellow policemen stopped the military convoy to demand an explanation.

Although the incident didn't escalate, Commander Hilario Capistran summoned all units of the Municipal Police to the city's main plaza, then moving on to the headquarters.

After the police officers were in headquarters, military troops surrounded the building of the Public Security Secretariat and entered in order to disarm all officers and run check on their weapons, the report stated.

Third shift commander Alfredo Rodriguez Cruz said he didn't know the motives of the military actions and stated that they have already requested back up from the State Public Security Secretariat to handle the policing duties of Matamoros.

Why does this remind me of the Afghan and Pakistan war lords?

Mexican media reports that the Matamoros police first arrested two soldiers in uniform and attacked a third.

So this is pretty much a Mexican cockfight to determine who has the biggest. And the drug cartels have yet to weigh in on the fight.

Matamoros (tranlation: Kill Moors) is right across the river from Brownsville, Texas, which is putting up a huge fight to stop construction of the border fence. But they will be screaming bloody murder and demanding federal help when all of this violence spills over into their lovely community.
