That is true, how I wish for the days of Newt, even with Clinton in office we were able to get things done. Now we don’t have a prayer with Dems running the whole show, except to pray for 2010 and sanity.

Even without the RINOs, the dems would go nuclear and change the rules without a moment’s hesitation. No matter how you cut it, they already have their supermajority.

1). The man is corrupt. He doesn’t deserve to be in the Senate. He was probably the single worst guy in the Republican caucus. We have some other RINOs but none who combined his RINOness with his corruption.

2). This seat should have been ours. The old selfish fool lost it by not quitting before the primary. He gave them a freebie.

“You know, Alaska is seeming awful corrupt on the Republican side. I know Palin cleaned house somewhat, but is there any other crap out there?”

Alaska seems to be like a frozen Louisiana. An upright governor and a raft of corrupt politicians.

It’s a shame that this puts Dems closer to 60 (assuming Lieberman still caucuses on most issues with them—the whole point of them letting him keep his HSC chair), but Stevens is a thug and a criminal. The sooner that his type are purged from both parties, the better off we all are.

Jefferson is opposed by a conservative Republican of Vietnamese descent in the Dec. 6 general election. The district is some 80 percent Democrat, and they are true believers!

She’s fine as governor for the time being. She needs to buck up her bonafides a bit, and she’ll be set for a Senate or POTUS run. Now is the time for her to continue doing what she’s done so far, so well: energize the base, reform the politcal system in AK, and hone her prepped and ad-lib oratory skills.

Incredibly good point. My apologies for chiming in before giving it due thought.

Don’t count on many Dems siding with us. The only DINO is Ben Nelson in Nebraska. And sometimes Mark Pryor and Mary Landrieu, but since they just won re-election, expect them to follow the party no matter what until 2013.

Again, it wasn't about Stevens. He was no more likely to be a part of the new session than you or I. It was about getting to a special election. We're not going to get anywhere by losing seats in the reddest of red states.

Unfortunately it was about Stevens. Alaskans still had to pull the lever for a convicted criminal and Stevens would certainly have claimed vindication had he won.

Conservatives will not miss him.

His arrogance cost the GOP that seat. One of his aides told me once that “they weren’t that kind of conservative” when I asked that he help reduce funding for or defund the Public Broadcasting Corporation.

I wish the RNC would have applied pressure for him to step down.

yep. I agree. Maybe we could have held onto the seat.

Once that mindless, arrogant, selfish bastard had his public hissy fit over the defeat of his bridge to nowhere, I realized that all he cared about was Stevens.
