I lost my younger brother to suicide, also.
Ten years, and it seems like yesterday.
Still hurts, but now, I think more of our good times together than the final days.
The creeps who watched this tragedy, and did nothing to stop or discourage it, will be confronted with their depravity when they are called to account. And they will be called to account.
Depression, obviously, is a medical illness, and, equally obviously, it can be terminal; when one’s emotional pain exceeds one’s ability to cope, bad things happen.
It really pisses me off when I hear people say it’s a coward’s way out. They are ignorant.
My brother was no coward.
These people do not want to die. They just want the pain to go away or lessen a bit.
I pray for this person’s soul and for comfort for his family.

If Keith Olberman did this on-air it would be a week before anyone noticed.

Everyone suffers to some degree, everyone experiences emotional pain and difficult circumstances. That creates empathy and TRUE "compassion." Very few of us, however, become so self-aborbed, so blind to the love others have for us, so willing to turn our backs on God in our despair, that we kill ourselves.

I doubt anyone, even the poster who called this moron a moron is mocking his pain, but rather his choice. Accomodating sin is not "compassion."

I guess since he was only a teenager, he wasn’t old enough to remember Bud Dwyer, the crooked PA state official who years ago offed himself at a news conference in Harrisburg. This kid was far upstaged by Dwyer who blew his head off in front of the press with statewide TV cameras rolling.

"Stand back. This could hurt someone."

I was going to college in PA at the time. Dwyer scheduled a news conference just before dinner, if I remember correctly. Apprently, I entered the room just moments after it happened. The look on my friends' faces ranged from simple amazement to horror and revulsion. I'm very grateful that I missed it.

it is hard to imagine people would watch and cheer a persons suicide. evil monsters. what is wrong with the youth today? i am sad for his family, how devastating:(

i find it so odd that he did this in such a "showy: way... that part of it spooks me... at least he didn't do a murder-suicide for added attention...

I remember a while ago there was a video of someone who got hit in the middle of the street, and Fox and others were ballistic that “no one went to help”.

I looked at the video. Maybe no one went running, but in the bottom of the screen you can see clearly people are concerned, and several look like they wanted to go into the street but were afraid of the traffic. Just before someone does go in, the video seems to cut.

I’m also sure people were calling on cell phones. If people feel an emergency is genuine, you can’t STOP them from calling 911.

Stuff like this is often manufactured by news services. If people on an individual basis caused all the havoc news services did with their irresponsible provocations, we’d be crucified.

I agree with you to a point.
My son, for example, was dumped by the “love of his life.”
He got pretty depressed. I told him it taught him empathy; now he knows emotional pain. It is no longer an abstract concept to him. He has grown from that sad experience as most of us do as we proceed to our reward.
I disagree that suicide is necessarily a sin. I am Catholic, as was my brother with some caveats, but he was blessed with a full ceremony.
I think whether suicide is a sin depends upon the circumstances of the act.
If one is mentally ill and severely depressed and commits suicide, I do not think that is a sin.
That’s like saying someone who died from cancer committed a sin.
I took my brother to several psychiatrists, and we tried numerous cognitive and drug therapies. They did not work.
My brother is in Heaven.
He is with Jesus. He is finally happy.
But, if you lose a loved one to suicide, you really need to be concerned about your own health, physical and mental. It is the most devastating thing I can imagine other than the loss of a child, which my Dad had to endure.
Sorry for the rant.
I’m going to work.

I don’t know who is sicker, the person committing the suicide or those watching. What a pathetic show of complete depravity.

The watchers are definitely more evil in this case.

Did you see this comment?

This is Abraham's mother. Please do not feel sorry for us, we lost a beautiful but troubled soul. Instead, please use that energy to "see" with your heart. Mental illnesses, like depression and bipolar disease, are not tempopary situations. It is something that victims live with and battle with privately. Please use your energy to hear the cry and help someone. Thank you.

I agree that our Lord will judge us fairly.

But, if you lose a loved one to suicide, you really need to be concerned about your own health, physical and mental.

Without a doubt. I saw a great deal of pain, not a small amount of anger, but mostly sadness in those of us left behind. I'm not sure how much "compassion" each of us felt; mostly just longing, I guess.

"Holy Saints preserve us!"

What?

Ugh, nevermind. Lord help us, it seems like there is an inordinate amount of dumbasses masquerading as Christians all over the planet.

Yeah. Unfortunate.

I remember that, as well. He used either a .44 magnum or a .357 magnum.

If I never see such a thing again, I will thank He above.

It was horrific for those in the room and those who saw it live. IIRC, channel 27 replayed it in its entirety and was excoriated, rightfully so.
