BERLIN, Nov. 24 -- A German court on Monday ordered the release of a former leader of the Red Army Faction, the Marxist group that terrorized West German industrialists, bankers and politicians, as well as U.S. military officials, in the 1970s and 1980s.
Christian Klar, 56, will be freed on parole in January after serving 26 years for murdering nine people and attempting to kill 11 others, according to a decision handed down by a panel of judges in Stuttgart.

Nine people dead = twenty-six years: not even three years a person.
Does he “wish he had done more”?
Does he wish he had done more?
Wouldn’t surprise me. Now he is getting his chance to finish the job.
This is a job for Jason Bourne.
Speaking of Germany, terrorists and treason, did anyone see the show about the plot to kill Hitler on the History channel last night? We all know about the assassination attempt but the show was all about the aftermath of slaughter and suicides of the “traitors” involved.
Looks like Tom Cruise may have a good flick with “Valkyrie”.
It was a kill one, get one free deal.
This is outrageous. The world has lost its mind.
What has been lost, or ONE of the things that has been lost is that if the people do not perceive that justice is being done and that they are being protects, they will take things into their own hands.
This summer I taught one class in a program for "disadvantaged" but smart and hard-working kids. A couple of days before the class there had been a murder in the neighborhood of one of the students.
After we got through the content part of the class (calculate the energy in a 357 SIG bullet) we got to talking about pistols in real life. The kids knew I was an ex-deputy, and I expressed frustration that nobody was cooperating with the police about the murder. The kid said, "we'd rather deal with it ourselves. If he gets in the court system they won't do anything to him, just a slap on the wrist."
Liberal judges lead to tribal, sharia-like justice.
His resume screams “university post”.
Less than 3 years per person. ;~((
The article answers that question:
Unlike some RAF members, Klar has never apologized or expressed remorse for his crimes, stirring a public controversy in Germany over whether he ought to be freed. In January 2007, he wrote a rambling letter to a conference of left-wing political groups in Berlin, urging them to "complete the defeat of the plans of capitalism."
Now he can become a Professor of German Lit or History.
No doubt Illinois or Iowa will create a post for him.
Not intending to be anal about it but the proper term is “Fraction” not “Faction”.
These guys and Baader-Mienhof were some of the nastier terrorists in Europe at the time and when the polizei caught some of them in a grocery store it was shoot first, shoot again, then ask questions.
I close friend narrowly escaped a bombing in Frankfurt and I would have been in one at the airport had I not suddenly and unexpliccably changed my mind about picking up some lost baggage that day. Bomb exploded right where I was supposed to be when I was supposed to be there.
Actually, I do believe “Faction” is the right word. Where did you get the idea that “Fraction” is the right word?
US Army Intelligence. I was once upon a time a security NCO at a classified weapons site at a Dutch airbase in Germany. We had the keys to the devices and had to escort the techs and insectors.
We were briefed regularly on terrorist activites, had to be able to ID them, and I too thought Faction sounded better than Fraction.
“Nine people dead = twenty-six years: not even three years a person.”
The Germans believe in mild slaps on the wrists for criminals. Let them out so they have plenty of time to do it again.
