Then there's the bastardy angle. Forty-odd years ago illegitimacy wasn't a ho-hum matter, and "single mothers" came in for more, rather than less, social disapproval.

Could be that Stanley Ann, or mom Madelyn, placed the announcement as an anticipatory rebuttal of any future whispers that little Barack's parents weren't married (at least not to each other) when he made his debut.

As far as the "bastardy angle," is concerned you may have a point. We'll never know for sure, I suppose.

But it's also worth considering that the announcement may have used to establish baby Barack as a Hawaiian by stating the parents' Hawaii address. True, the announcement would not ordinarily be considered a "legal document," but it could have been used as a tool to (fraudulently) convince Hawaii authorities that Baby Barack was Hawaiian and American by birth, which in turn may have allowed him certain privileges that might not otherwise be available under state and federal law.

Remember that Barack was born into a counter-cultural (communist or communist-leaning) milieu. It's hard to say whether being born out of wedlock would have carried the same social stigma to his family as it would to most Americans at the time.

” Then there’s the bastardy angle.”

One of the ongoing themes of Obama’s first book “ Dreams From My Father “ is that much of his family history, as told by his white grandparents and his mother-
is probably ficticious.
Obama details over and over and over that his Gramps made up stories
out of “ white revisionism.”

Page xv Introductions
“ I learned long ago to distrust my childhood and the stories that shaped it.”

It is obvious from Obama’s own words that he doesn’t believe a word that his grandparents and his mother told him about anything.
They’re all liars for different reasons.
Especially about family history.

Regarding the marriage of his parents.
Page 22 “ Dreams...”

” How and when the marriage occured remains a bit murky.
A bill of particulars that I’ve never quite had the courage to explore.

There’s no record of a real wedding , a cake,
a ring, a giving away of the bride.
No families were in attendance....”

If his family’s history is in doubt,
and his parent’s marriage is suspect-
then logically, his birth particulars are also in doubt.
However, on page 26 ,
Obama claims to have found his birth certificate
among vaccination records and an article about his father’s graduation in the Honolulu-Star Bulletin.
