Somali Pirates Hijack Ship, Some Crew Escape (ANOTHER ONE!!)
The Voice of America ^ | November 28, 2008

Maritime officials said pirates off the coast of Somalia Friday hijacked another ship and released one that had been held for more than two months.

Officials said three crew members escaped as pirates boarded the Liberian-flagged chemical tanker Biscaglia.

A warship on patrol near the ship sent a helicopter to intervene. It arrived after pirates seized the ship, but rescued the three crew members who had jumped into the Gulf of Aden.

At least 25 other crew members are still on board the hijacked ship. They are reported to be mostly from India and Bangladesh.

Also Friday, Kenyan authorities said Somali pirates released a Greek ship they captured in September. The ship's 26 Filipino crewmembers are reported to be in good health after two months in captivity.

Somalia pirates are holding about 15 ships, including a Saudi tanker carrying $100 million worth of oil. Pirates are demanding $15 million for the tanker.

An international coalition of warships patrols the area off Somalia to prevent hijackings.

Pirates based in Somalia have made the waters off East Africa some of the most dangerous in the world.

"Somali pirates released a Greek ship they captured in September"

i.e., they were paid some multi-million $$ ransom

This pirate cesspool needs to be drained - what a mess.

Wonder how much of the ransom money is going to fund Islamo-fascist activity?

it is time to ask who is dumb enough to insure these boats? All any boat needs are two guys and a radar. The two guys spot and fire 50Cal armor piercing incindiary rounds at ANY small boat they choose.

Why shouldn't it, when the Indians are the only one with enough guts to try to do something about it.

Two guys is NOT enough, the need at least three. One on the bridge, one at the stern and the third at the bow section to cover all sides!!!

This is a disease that needs to be contained and eliminated before it spreads. Treat the immediate infection and then go to the heart of the operation. Reduce the swelling and then proceed immediately to the cause.

If it works on living people, it'll work on a living world.

Then they should also train and manning all the fire fighting water guns on deck to drown the attackers

They need to send a fleet of Q-ships there to sucker some pirates in for a little lesson on “why pirating can make you wind up dead”.

After 9-11, the Bush Admin did a dynomite job of drying up and freezing the accounts and assets of the terrorist networks.

Me wizened pa shared with me his thought there is a link between the pirates and what is also going down in Mumbai: The terrorist groups are starved for money. I wonder how much of Mumbai was a ransom/looting demand. And when I add a few more dots, I see fascinating connections.

And really, just a matter of time considering how many "legal" non-terrorist companies and organizations are bleeding for funds.

The rats eventually rise, too.

They need to start sinking ships... They will reconsider if they know that they will be in the midst of the business end of many tomahawk missiles

“Not doing a bangup job.”

Western navy ships can’t even blockade the Somali ports because of “international law.”

According to Drudge and My Way News: "Still on board were 25 Indian and two Bangladeshi crew members, said diplomats who could not be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media. The British security guards escaped by jumping into the water, said a news release issued by their company, Anti-Piracy Maritime Security Solutions."

If accurate, that does not reflect well on the "British Security Guards" who one would expect (though after their little naval surrender, fiascos with Iran, one only knows) they would be armed? And if so, there is something here that does not compute!!!

Yes, this seems very strange to me, too. Why would you hire three British “security guards” (pretty expensive, I would think) who were unarmed, and who jumped into the sea at the first sign of a pirate attack?

It certainly sounds like those cowardly Brit sailors who surrendered to Iranian gunboats.
