While I’m not generally a fan of over paid, jack ass athletes, this seems like a major over-reaction to somebody accidentally shooting himself.

I agree with this article completely; as far as this guy's negligence goes, he's been punished.

As far as his rights under the Constitution go and all our rights with him, the New York laws are clearly unconstitutional and he should not be prosecuted under them.

Screw Burress and the rest of the spoiled, coddled millionaire athletes. He “f”ed up, and then tried to cover it up to save his ass.

Pretty darn stupid and wreckless to keep a round chambered with a Glock. Virtually no safety once you have a round chambered with their “safety” trigger. Don’t get me wrong, I like my Glock, but would never carry with a round chambered.

3.5 yrs in prison : overkill.
Never applied for a license: how could he be sure he wouldn’t get one ?
Shoots himself ? Stupid and dangerous. Shouldn’t own a gun. Certainly he could’ve hired body guards .

At the nightclub, the handgun accidentally discharged, shooting Mr. Burress in the right thigh.

The Glock is a pretty nice hand gun and has several built-in safety features, depending upon which model you have. I would really like to hear how a Glock "accidentally discharged" without Plaxico doing something really, really stupid.

The dufuss was “wearing” the gun as hip-hop fashion apparel.

There’s no second amendment issue here.

He broke the law. If it were me, would I get the same punishment?

Of course it is the gun their after NOT the individual.
To hear anything come out of bloomberg’s mouth makes me sick especially after his decree to serve a third term.
They are bound and determined to get all of our guns. I say we “share the wealth” and at least give them the bullets. They are going to use any incidence such as what this idiot did to justify their totalitarian takeover.
I say the boob got what he deserved for not knowing how to bear an arm. Even if he had hurt or killed someone then we have laws that would have dealt with that.
I mean should’nt we also ban tall buildings because people jump out of them? I mean really why must they be so high it is just inviting someone to jump or be pushed out?!
Oh I know cars! They are dangerous to our environment and they have killed a lot more people than guns!
PAPERCUTS! How many innocent people have been scarred because of the callous indifference of paper manufacturers not dulling the edges of these “weapons”?!

My take on the article is that he will be found guilty of illegally carrying a weapon, and that there is/was no way he could ever legally carry a weapon in NYC. It seems that non-residents aren’t issued carry permits, which to me smacks of unequal treatment under the law. I offer no defense for Burress’s stupidity nor his lifestyle, simply an attack on unconstitutional gun laws of NYC.

Sorry. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Burress is in trouble because he is a stupid jerk that believes he is above the law becuase he plays football and was more interested in acting out his fantasy as a gangster then in plying his trade and making a fantastic living doing so, in a terrible economy.
There are hundreds of high quality young atheletes that did not make teams that will now get a chance if this loser is cut lose as he should be.

I can see a slightly lubricated guy stuffing a Glock into his pants and the trigger snagging on something like the pant waistband and — thigh injury, or worse!

I can’t stand this guy, but the gun laws in NYC are clearly out of control.

I read that a woman had wrapped her legs around his waist, and somehow that’s what caused the gun to go off. And of course I mean his pistol.
