They now fingerprint people and make them fill out forms in California who bring in over $100 worth to the recycle center....all of a sudden the “mysterious items” stopped appearing.

In West Virginia, an official of Kanawha County, which includes Charleston, the state capital, has called on residents to stockpile their own plastic and metals, which the county mostly stopped taking on Friday.

Yeah, sure, everyone's gonna store their trash until some government toadie tells them it's safe to recycle it.

And yet, here in Georgia, my county is instituting a
$500 fine for those who don’t recycle 36 recyclable items.

Keep the bins, they’re handy for a lot of things. I suspect these programs will be suspended in a lot of places real soon.

My first thought was that the druggies will quit stealing copper wire for a while.

And the little brainwashed kids are begging the government to keep recycling, despite it not being cost-effective.

They’ve been sold the envirowacko’s bill of goods, and are afraid of the planet getting “dirty”. The poor kids never had a clue about how the free market is supposed to work. They will be good little foot soldiers for Obama and his successors.

Gee, will Congress bail out junk now that they have bailed out junk mortgages?

Tree hugger that I am ... trying to be diligent in my recycle efforts ... I often wonder if paying for a recycle bin is a complete waste. Not only in terms of paying extra for the bin ... going to the effort of sorting thru plastics, etc., to make sure they meet the arbitrary standards.

Talk about automotive irony. Saturn body panels were polycarbonate made from recycled plastic, then the recycle material became so expensive they went to virgin, then that went up with oil so they switched back to steel, adding ~500 pounds to the VUE for one.

Those plastic panels were one of their huge selling points. You will probably be able to time the market switch from deflationary to inflationary by when GM gets Saturn to start making their car panels out of plastic again (right at the wrong time)...
