The Tainting of the President-Elect
The American Spectator ^ | December 10, 2008 | Jeffrey Lord

*SNIP*

The notion that a newly elected president who is also a sitting U.S. Senator would have no "contact" whatsoever with the governor charged with appointing his Senate successor is a fantasy.

*SNIP*

By sheer accident, there is a current example of this kind of thing right alongside Obama himself -- Vice President-elect Joe Biden. Like Obama, Biden is a sitting Senator and must yield his seat. The Governor of Delaware, indeed, has already announced "her" choice to fill the Biden vacancy: none other than Biden's longtime Senate chief of staff Ted Kaufman. Does anyone seriously believe this appointment occurred with "no contact" whatsoever between Biden and his state's governor? In fact, the Kaufman appointment resembles nothing so much as JFK's selection of Ben Smith. In this case, the idea is to have Kaufman warm the seat for the Delaware Attorney General -- Joe Biden's son Beau Biden. Beau Biden, according to news reports, declined the seat for now and is currently in Iraq as a captain in the state's national guard. Yet clearly Beau Biden in 2008, like Teddy Kennedy in 1960, has only to wait for the politically right moment and the move will be on from a powerful family member to give him a Senate seat.

Obama and Axelrod's denials about their knowledge of the Blogojevich schemes to replace Obama in the Senate is utter hogwash.

Jesse Jackson Jr. has been identified as Candidate 5 who offered up a $1 Million bribe to Blogo for the seat. There is no way anyone will ever believe that there were no contacts between the Office of the President Elect and Jesse Junior...

I also find it highly amusing that the phrase "President Elect" appears in the Governor's Indictment 42 times.

The real fallout to Obama over this is going to be among all of those Chicago pals of his that he was going to bring with him to DC, but who just realized that they have extensive, provable contacts with Blogdojevich, and who are now unemployable in any capacity in DC...

A great Rush caller said we should also look into other fire sales (i.e. Hitlery's sen. seat et.al. & etc.).

In other words, if this is goin' on so status quo, what else don't we know?

Obama needs to be the one frog-marched. Out of all crooks, he ought to be most in the know about the replacement of HIS own friggin Senate seat. The Axelrodent and Rahm Ballerina denials obviously reek of lies. Seriously... who’s buying it?

Several articles have mentioned that Blago was seeking a cabinet post or ambassadorship in exchange for the senate seat. How can he seek those positions from the incoming administration without having spoken to someone at the transition team? This is going to get interesting.

Democrats. Funny little critters aren't they? If it's not about sex it's about screwing up the economy causing our retirement investments to tank. Now we've got a real problem moving into the White House next month.

Upstanding governor: "I'm going to keep [Barack Obama's] Senate option for me a real possibility, you know, and therefore I can drive a hard bargain. You hear what I'm saying? And if I don't get what I want and I'm not satisfied with it, then I'll just take the Senate seat myself. ...[The seat] is a f***ing valuable thing -- you just don't give it away for nothing." --Illinois Democrat Gov. Rod Blagojevich in secretly taped phone conversations about filling Obama's Senate seat.

Bad idea: "I should say if anybody wants to tape my conversations, go right ahead, feel free to do it. I appreciate anybody who wants to tape me openly and notoriously, and those who feel like they want to sneakily and wear taping devices, I would remind them that it kind of smells like Nixon and Watergate." --Rod Blagojevich before his arrest.

Deny everything: "I had no contact with the governor or his office and so we were not, I was not aware of what was happening." --Barack Obama, friend and ally of Gov. Blagojevich.

Somebody's lying: "I know he's talked to the governor and there are a whole range of names many of which have surfaced, and I think he has a fondness for a lot of them." --Obama adviser David Axelrod on 23 November (Axelrod now says he was "mistaken" when he said that)

Spending money hand over fist: "And so we understand that we've got to provide a, a, a blood infusion into the patient right now to make sure that the patient is stabilized, and, and that means that we, we can't worry short term about the deficit. We've got to make sure that the economic stimulus plan is large enough to get the economy moving." --Barack Obama

Yeah, right: "You know, the days of just pork coming out of Congress as a strategy, those days are over." --Barack Obama, announcing his plan for $700 billion in "public works"

Somehow, we don't believe him: "I believe in common-sense gun safety laws, and I believe in the Second Amendment. Lawful gun owners have nothing to fear. I said that throughout the campaign. I haven't indicated anything different during the transition. I think people can take me at my word." --Barack Obama, who still promises to make the so-called "assault weapons" ban permanent (on his site under Crime and Law Enforcement), which would ban most of the guns Americans have been buying since the election.

Foot in mouth: "My staff tells me not to say this, but I'm going to say it anyway. In the summer because of the heat and high humidity, you could literally smell the tourists coming into the Capitol. It may be descriptive but it's true." --Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) in remarks at the opening of the new $621 million Capitol Visitors Center

Illinois newspapers reported shortly after the election that Obama met with Blagojevic to discuss filling the Senate seat.

This seems to be getting a lot more traction on MSM/DBM than I would ever have predicted.

America needs to clean house (and senate).

I think we're on the verge of the biggest upheaval this country has ever seen. The dems are pulling off a coup right before our eyes.

They've got most of the country distracted with job losses and bailouts, while they slowly move the chess pieces into position for a final checkmate on America.

I just wonder how it will play out. I wonder if that old American spirit and courage will step up and stop this, or if we will just roll over and give up like other 3rd world countries have done.

If we give up without a fight, then we deserve what we get.

We have lost the fight years ago. The lefties took control of all the underlying institutions and each and all proclaims its agenda. The message is too loud to be over come

Conservatives are so narrow minded and fragmented they will not allow agreement required to mount a candidate that can win. Conservatives are lazy. They sit at home and grouse rather than act. They fear public action and the exposure it entails.

The result is socialism by default

Read Operation Board Games (it’s on the site as well), read all parts.

Eyes will be opened. I have much more after that.

BTW, make sure to read about the Companion Security Deal referenced in comments and following link (from above post re: Rahm/Blago/O). After that look into the Iraq power plant and telecom deals.

As obviously ridiculous as it sounds, proof is required to show a link. Not just reasonable conclusion/hypothesis.

To me the best such proof is ironically what some are touting as proof Obama DIDN’T have contact with Blogdojevich. The profanity laced excerpt by the Gov himself.

After all, how would the good Governor know Obama wouldn’t “play ball” if he never had contact with him (or someone representing Obama)?

It doesn’t seem anyone is asking that question. Somehow the Obama apologists have siezed on the profanity laced tirade as proof that ultimately Obama didn’t engage in anything illicit. As true as that may be, the question above still remains.

Isn’t YouTube grand?

Aren’t Cell Phones with video and audio capability grand?

Politicians can no longer hide behind “no I didn’t say that” when it’s all over YouTube because someone with a Cell Phone was recording what really was said.

It isn’t just the law which has a “long arm” these days . . . so does YouTube.

Axelrod and Emmanual are going to get hammered in this.

I don’t envy Obama having a VP sitting in the room who has a two decades lust for the Oval Office. I’m sure he is amazed at his luck.

If leaks come out of this, I think it’s a given it is coming from the Naval Observatory.

No goodwill, no honeymoon - just more skeptical scandal. Happy New Year, everyone.

You're absolutely right. Which is why these liberals are in such a hurry to start regulating the internet.
