I understand, but Heydrich actually was not a homo, as a matter of fact, quite the opposite, with a mistress as well as a wife and children.
Beard!
I didn’t make any comments about Rommel.
I am fully aware of his demise. I have also read enough books about him to know he was a class act.
Hitler virtually executed him (by ordering him to commit suicide), thus eliminating him but gaining a hero for the Reich.
RE: “Check out what happened to von Stauffenburgs family to find out the alternative.”
According to the notes at the end of the movie, his wife died in 2006.
The AAFES theater on our base had a free pre-screening of this movie - it was one of the best I have seen in years.
Even though we knew the outcome, the swings of emotion really made the movie. There was tension before the attempted assassination, triumph as everything seemed to be working, uncertainty as their communication is cut off, then panic as they attempted to escape after learning Hitler was still alive.
I thought it was an excellent movie, so it won't surprise me if the critics hate it.
Was Tom Cruise a great von Stauffenberg? I don't know enough about von Stauffenberg to tell you. I would be surprised if he was really as cocky as Cruise played him, but they probably had to do that to make the plot move along at a movie-length pace. (There was some of the obnoxious Top Gun Tom Cruise that came through.) But the movie told the story well, assuming the history is reasonably accurate. I may go see it again in a descent theater and when the DVD comes out, I will buy it.
Saw the movie with my son. We both thought it was compelling.
That’s hilarious!
By the way, the first review I got was from a friend of my daughter. He said the movie stinks.
As I recall, ‘War and Remembrance’ dealt at length with this particular subject.
I have wondered how the producers would manage to write a minority actor ( read ‘person of color’) into the plot, and who would it be, some rapper bro or ho?
Cruise was excellent in the Last Samarai
I like Cruise as an actor. He was really good in War of the Worlds and last Samurai.
Trash. One review said that the Cruise boy speaks English with an English accent, which perfectly proper for an American film, but then other actors speak with the British accent, and then one actor,a German, speaks English with a German accent. Amateur directing hour (or two.)
I saw it tonight. It's a good film. Seriously.
Not all Germans were Nazis any more than all Americans are Democrats just because of Odmama.
Based on what I've seen you post, you will like this movie. And, I'm glad I saw it in the theater for the full affect.
One technical flaw that really doesn't take away from the movie is that the Germans are attacked by P-40 Flying Tigers, teeth and everything.
